Not too sure who he compares to. As you say Pederson perhaps. And he's only 20, so plenty of upside.

I'm a big fan of Collins. Saw him stop Subi too many times. I guess Lyon didn't rate him? One coach's opinion shouldn't spell the end of an AFL career.
He is ok playing as backmen , should be a good backup AFL player if your team have good HB flank playing alongside him. Lyon normally like to work with Best 25 as mention by Del Santo , the rest will be left behind .

Quick question why these two guys were never given an opportunity at the higher level? Always do well at state level but thats where the interest seems to stop. Hewett in particular always does well stat wise.

Yeah, good question.
George is a mercurial player. From the old school of the Bosustow's, A Jackovich etc and so on. Got offside with the Subi coach for reasons which weren't made public. Injuries took their toll also.

Busher is a late developer. Has excelled at Claremont after some up and down years at Perth. Should have made the state squad. But it was a very conservative state squad

Yes but crucially, in the best 25 as rated by one coach. Given another coach, he might have been rated in the best 12.

I guess some have said that Nelson doesn't get as much value from his numerous possessions as he should. A lot of short kicks, handpasses in tight and so on. I'll let others decide on that.

I can't see any down points for Bolton. He's tall-ish, powerful, can run outside, compete inside and he can kick with penetration. He'd be a Tim Kelly like instant impact player in the AFL.

The video of the 2018 WAFL v SANFL game is worth watching. Bolton, Meadows, Marsh and Nelson all feature

Cheers.

I really hope we snag one or two of these really hungry state league players instead of sifting through the DFA bin.

Hampson very unlucky to not get a go, would say AFL clubs not keen due to two successive knee recons by the time he was 18 and his slightness. Started out as a very effective & efficient small forward at Subiaco and played in a couple of grand finals starring in 2015 against East Perth despite coming in injured. Did not get on with Schofield for his authoritarian and full time approach (nothing untoward, just clashing of a couple of very opinionated people) - which ultimately has proven to be exceptionally successful for Subiaco and as mentioned Schofield still managed to entrust him in the '15 decider so to be honest is probably showing history to be on the side of the coach. Was always a very smart and talented player standing out considerably for adjudging the flight of the ball and reading the crumbs off packs, but then since moving to the Sharks got a lot more midfield opportunity and has excelled (whenever not injured) consistently racking up insane numbers. Too many injuries to get drafted at this stage of his career and perhaps not perceived as fast or powerful enough to transition to the way AFL is played these days, but is a gun of a WAFL footballer.

Busher started out as a key forward at Perth. Probably a bit skinny, not a dominant sort of player even going back to the Colts. Think he had a year or so off then went to Claremont where he has excelled in new roles behind the ball. Bit similar in a way to his teammate Tom Lee who was pretty handy at AFL level, but up against it as a slight, but versatile tall in a mediocre side when he got his second chance. Could see him doing a good job if given the opportunity, but at this stage perhaps getting late in the piece and whilst is a quality footballer he isn't smashing down the door.

Sam Collins will win the J.J Liston trophy. The bloke is far too good to not be on an AFL list!

As for the rest of the list, Corbett shows a bit, as does Rich who is younger and is a more explosive option imho.

Lentini is just a work horse. Screams Shane Nelson to me though. Someone who you look at post game and think how the hell did he get it 35 times?
Lentini never had an issue finding the ball at 18s level, he is rather high volume low impact sort of player which i dont think has changed in the VFL this year.

Seen him live twice now and he is too good for VFL level. Is only 24 which shouldn't spell the end for a player. Looked a class above on the weekend against our mob. Has genuine leg speed which separates him apart from other likely mature aged KPD's.

The Brody Mihocek experience should suggest it's not too late for Collins.

I really rated him at Freo, was surprised he didn't get a gig on an AFL list this season, would be completely stunned if he doesn't get one next year.

Needed to work on his disposal a bit but that shouldn't be fatal for a fullback.

Yeah agreed. The only difference between the likes of Hartigan/Ambrose and Sam Collins is a consistent run of AFL games imo .

Disposal and pace were his 2 main deficiencies....brutally exposed vs Essendon in our last game in 2017.

Collins look slow and Disposal a bit down at Fremantle due to Continuity , 2016 playing with Dawson, Silvagni, ibboson ,Crozier and 2017 Luke Ryan , Blakely , Weller , Hamling one or two matches in AFL , so I am not surprised if other AFL club draft him this year.

Sorry to the other state leagues for overflowing with VFL/WAFL talk.

What can SANFL followers tell me about Alex Barns? 25 y.o fwd/ruck from North Adelaide. Could he translate to the next level?

I've been a fan of his for a few years now, but he can certainly frustrate. The difference between his best and his worst is incredible, one game he's kicking 8 goals and taking pack marks like you wouldn't believe beasting anyone and everyone with high leaping and straight kicking plus rucking and the next game he barely gets 5 touches and does nothing. I think at least draft him to see what he does, worth a shot.

To be frank, would think a lower listed ruckmen would be a better option on an AFL list than any running around in the VFL this year. Not sure about the other state leagues though.

Meese is definitely the best ruckman outside the AFL but the ship has well sailed for him. He's old fashioned and relies on brute strength, not many blokes can move him.

SANFL wise I rate Darcy Fort as one that could at least provide a back up ruck to a side needing one (like the crows). Played in the state game and SA were very dominant out of the middle when he was rucking, and not so when he wasn't. Played some great footy this year but unsure if he'll ever be drafted though.

Otherwise no rucks really jump out....Jordan Sweet might be a late bloomer in a year or two, big lad was in Under 18's a couple of years ago now.

As far as other players go, Mitch Grigg should be playing AFL. He's let himself go a tad this year in terms of AFL body shape presents with a big barrel chest which probably wouldn't help but he is head and shoulders above his peers atm and should win back to back magarey medals in a canter. Some of his early season stats were ridiculous where he was the leading possession winner and just about the leading goalkicker in the entire comp. Dropped away a tad of late but strong again on the weekend. Matthew Panos another who deserves another crack, big body, clearance machine 6ft3 dominates the stoppages and kicks goals as well, given he was a junior FF/CHF type.

Serious question - why?

Hope GC get Sam Collins , worth the risk , hopefully another Menegola story .

From the outside, key defenders are one resource the Suns don't really seem to need? May, Thompson, Leslie and occasionally Sam Day is pretty good depth in that area.

Unless May leaves, but he doesn't sound like he will.

3 KPD with one swing Men hardly enough cover, not sure where Leslie at with Dew also . Sam Day look more like KPF in Dew line up , especially if Lynch decided to go .

Yoda both players have been ravaged by injuries and had their continuity of playing messed up.

Norwood's midfield quartet of Grigg, Panos, Johnston, and Nunn are destroying teams in the SANFL right now.

Unfortunately, I am not sure if the clubs that passed over the older 3 continuously will give them another look.

Nunn is a different prospect as a quick 21-year-old who has found the ball inside and out this year.
