But do the bottom 2 teams usually start 0-7? I think Brisbane have been very unlucky. I can see their luck turning around and getting 4 wins. But Carlton have not been unlucky. I really hope that Brisbane and Carlton get their lucky wins over Melbourne ;)
It happens.
  • 2016 - Freo were 0-7 (finished with 3 wins)
  • 2013 - GWS were 0-7 (finished with 1 win)
  • 2012 - Melbourne & Gold Coast both 0-7 (finished with 4 & 3 wins respectively)
  • 2011 - Brisbane were 0-6 after 7 rounds (finished with 4 wins)
  • 2010 - Richmond were 0-7 (finished with 6 wins)
Richmond's finish to 2010 was remarkable, but Brisbane & Melbourne both won 4 games after being winless at R7. Freo & Gold Coast both managed 3 wins after starting 0-7. It can be done. Whether or not Carlton are capable of doing it is another matter entirely.

I think Brisbane will win a few games at the Gabba, Carlton on the other hand they potentially could go 0-22.

There is no Brisbane or GC in Victoria for them to get a default win against.

I am sure that they will most probably pinch a win from somewhere, but it is going to be hard for them because there's not going to be a game that they'll be going in as favourites for, for the rest of the year.
There may not be a Brisbane or GC in Victoria, but St Kilda are awfully close. Carlton do play Fremantle at Jihad Stadium. I suspect that's the closest they'll get to starting a game as favourites.

They'll probably beat Essendon this week, seeing Essendon have just fallen apart.

Probably. But I think Essendon will be a different side this week. Just finished an awful run of congested games. They are a bit of a flat track bully and I think they might have a massive game this week.

Typical AFL, non-vic sides start doing well and they've got to peg them back with a farcical decision. Pathetic.

Holy shit, the AFL have absolutely lost their minds suspending Naitanui for that tackle.

Wasnt it because the players head got driven into the ground. I thought that was the rule? Or do they have to have concussion? The issue for me will be when a Victorian club player does it and gets off with a fine. Which is guaranteed to happen. The double standards have just rolled on with the new system. No suspension for Hawkins. WTF.

What you talkin' about Willis?

Hawkins has been referred directly to the tribunal. He may or may not get a suspension, but we won't know until later tonight.

Doesn't look like his head hit the ground at all, he got a free against him, that should have been the end of it. Nic Nat didn't tackle him illegally, or throw him around at all, it's just an unfortunate difference in size at worst.

Oh. Ok, thought he had been cleared because I couldnt find any mention of it.

Looks like his head hits to me.

Even if it does, it's from the force of a legal tackle. It's ludicrious, it's not a sling, he's just being hit by a bigger bloke. Nic Nat didn't do a damn thing wrong and it's just an overreacting tribunal throwing out suspensions because someone hit their head.

how is it a legal tackle when it was paid as a free kick against him ?

It was a clumsy tackle IMO which ended up with the player being driven face first into the ground, to me it's either a fine or suspension depending on what side of the bed Michael Christian gets outside of that morning.

Yes, a heavy duty tackle and his head is driven to the turf. Unnecessary / reckless - like a sling tackle? No. But - well, it was dangerous so I suppose it's worthy of a penalty. You could argue that it's just the size difference in the players that made it come out that way.

Edit: If Paddy Ryder did that to Rory Laird, let's be honest, we'd be melting.

Are you serious dude? That kind of thing happens multiple times a game, but we're gonna punish this one because Nic Nat is twice the size of the guy he's tackling?

I don't see what NicNat could've done though. He sprinted, caught the much smaller man and pushed through him. Didn't pin the arms and in fact Amon is the one that turned toward the ground (Nic got him in the side).

Can see an ITB (or high from that image) but nothing more. Unless you don't want ruckmen to tackle smaller players or just bearhug them?

It actually reminded me of this.

CEY did something similar against Carlton this week.
