I’m of the opposite opinion. If indeed our cap has that much space I’d be looking at paying him 2M in year one & then 1.3-4M every year after. Call it an extra signing bonus in year one. Just get it done. We need a circuit breaker.

Why do we need a circuit breaker ? No doubt he would improve our list and performance but he isnt taking us to the promised land, the promised land will come from improvement in players like , Coff , Hunter , Long , Battle , DMac, Phillips, Gresh , Acres, Billings those types not one player IMO

North finished 15th last year and surprise they finished 9th this year hence players seeing light at the end of the tunnel and wanting to join them , we Finish 9th - 10th next year we will be a chance to get decent players , the same as if we hadn't dropped away this season

We are a bottom 3 team drastically underperforming & the supporter base needs some hope & I think so do the players. Shiel improves our team & memberships. If we don’t improve some of those players you mentioned will start asking for trades.

I’m sick of the club paying blokes like Mav Weller & Jack Newnes 600k in a year to hit minimum salary cap requirements.

Just get it done whatever the cost.

Their performance this year isn’t what I was getting at. I was making the point that they came off as desperate and threw money at anyone while being 15th, and that hasn’t done anything bad for them.

Don’t believe anything that the media says at this time of the year. They deliberately lie to drum up clicks. Also don’t believe the wages that are reported, the media inflate them by 10-20%, which they have done with our offer to Shiel. We have not offered him $8M.

North are paying Gaff 1.2M a year. That’s what it takes for a club to attract marquee signings. Dusty is on 1.4M & was offered a mega deal to move. Fyfe is on similar. This is the cost. We either follow suit or be left behind.

Exactly we need to spend the money just pay them out the nose we need to reach the cap anyway. Would actually be worse for us to not reach the cap. We have the money, time to spend it. And who cares if other clubs laugh at us...we're here to win games and improve our side. Everyone says they laughed at North last year. I didn't. They had a crack and came up short. Now look at what's happening with them & Gaff.

You make bold decisions and you do what's best for the club.

We complained all year about how poor we were, now we have a chance to land a premiere midfielder and people don't want him.

A single player cannot transform a team. Ablett won a brownlow and had some of the better individual years of any player in history when he went to the Suns. They won a handful of games over the first few years. But what you are completely missing is what Shiel or equivalent will bring to the bigger picture. With Haneberry showing more leadership, our younger elite kids coming on, next years draftees - Shiel will significantly improve our midfield as a whole and thus make us stronger as a group.. Maybe not next year but the year after we might just attract another elite player and Shiel will be what, 28 and in his prime? Add another free agent with him, Coff, Clark, Gresh, Billings Battle, Membrey all stepping up and its completely different.
