Have to spend the cap somewhere better to overpay stars then spuds. At times your moves did look pretty desperate but now it’s coming together there has been a method to all the madness and once the first domino falls the rest seem to follow. We chased a few like you did as well and didn’t work until prestia said yes then caddy and nank followed. Won a flag and now lynch is on the way it’s all about the first one.

I think that was the perception from the outside looking in, however, I think due to the size of our TPP shortfall we probably felt we had the potential to get in a couple of gun mids. They are low probability prospects but according to the players themselves we weren't that far off getting either or both. I think if the teams didn't have as good a season as they did perhaps things would have been different.

Gaff is a different type of prospect, he is considering returning home, that is likely his primary motivation, we just had to make a good enough offer to him. Port tried to lowball Polec and Hall has been out of favour with the Suns so the targets this year are a bit easier to entice.

It will be interesting to see how the exodus impact's Kelly and if we have more success with him next year. I think having Gubby around for consultation has probably helped, we probably don't have much experience with chasing players, we generally develop most of our players from the draft.

If Port are being campaigners about Polec we should try to swap pick 10 with GC for 18 and 26. It’s about a 400 point difference in our favour but you’re getting a significantly better player at 10 than 18.

Alternatively we could try a similar thing with Adelaide with 15 and 37 which would give us 200ish extra points.

That or hold them over a barrel and only give up our second pick.
