Do you truly believe that no-one who posts on this forum knows anyone who works at NMFC?
I could know someone that works at the club.........so what....

Does this now mean I know what Heeney, Kelly, Martin & Gaff wanna do?

I see the same recycled stuff being said about player X that we are targeting and then when it falls to shit the same posters try to stick up for the morons that claim they have inside info.

I mean how many more times does a star player have to reject us until you guys realise that maybe....just maybe no one really has inside info on what player x is going to do.

When it comes from the horses mouth....then share it.

I knew that, but it's interesting that there's someone else in play.

I'd be happy to take Scully off them, but I just don't know how we can do it, currency-wise. Perhaps we bite the bullet and use next year's 1st rounder, rather than retaining that in the belief that we need it for JK?

I'm off to start a thread "Tom Scully to North - done deal". Hope no-one gets embarrassed if it turns out wrong and other supporters laugh at us. :thumbsu:

I'm just so tired. Demotivated. Out of it.

The club has come out of this outside of our little fish bubble here like stooges to be used as leverage from managers like that ****ing rat Connors.

And if Josh Kelly is our Plan B, sure go for it. But don't expect anything during a time where Dylan Shiel looks to make his exit at the same time. GWS won't play ball. North ain't going to the well again on any big name free agents, of which there is none left anyway.

I think what gave it away for me was when we made a string of re-signings mid week.

Wright, Anderson, Dumont, Thompson.

Would this not indicate that Gaff informed the club he would be staying at the Eagles? If Gaff came to us it would potentially mean Wright or Thompson doesn't get offered a new contract and perhaps Froggy and Jed earn a little less.

I was thinking the opposite, but it could work both ways. It sounded like the club had put their contracts on hold until they knew exactly how much leftover they could offer those players, and with Gaff ‘commiting’ it meant they could finalize those deals/amounts. Especially with Jed, like they’d agreed in principle to a new contract but he was just waiting to squeeze every little bit of cash out of us that was left after Gaff & Polec.

So we draft tampered with LDU changing his contract from a 2 year one to a 4 year contract? I hope the AFL who approved it don't find out... :stern look
That’s different from overpaying in the first two years, which is what you were suggesting we do and is forbidden in the CBA. Schedule C, section 2, clause (d):
"A first year draft choice Player shall not be entitled to, nor shall an AFL Club, pay a first year Player more than the amounts prescribed by this item 2, other than: ... (various incidental expenses and reimbursements and bonuses)"

We could promise to Scott that we’re going to extend him on good coin but it wouldn’t be smart nor help with our current cap situation.

Oh. And it looks like we could also promise to gift him games and rig the B&F so he gets bonuses.

Did not come here to gloat at all.

It’s strongly rumoured that the person who convinced Gaff to stay an Eagle was his actually his own dad.

You guys made a good pitch and have a good team. Your the only team to beat us badly this year so your club has some good players going forward. Also if players stay at their club like gaff did them there’s hope for your young players when they come out of contract also.

Good luck for 2019 and you’ll rise up the ladder.

I didn’t hear / read any complaints when Polec & Hall were confirmed mate , we don’t get them all right .

All in good fun but PR would have to be one of the unluckiest posters from Heaths confrontation to Puma right thru to today’s backflip

No one could have seen these unprecedented turn of events when literally we could have 2 a graders running around for us.

After Dusty it was very forseeable.

If Josh Kelly ends up a North player, all well and good, but let's be honest here, the most likely outcome next year is that Connors uses us to push GWS to the line but we get some bullshit "assurance" from Connors and/or Kelly that he's coming along the way, to keep us on the hook.

Linament sniffers who hang around the club or have some half-arsed "role" (that's not in the footy department obviously) then drink fifteen beers and message their mates who proceed to tell everyone here that "Its joshening!"

Then when push comes to shove GWS will find the extra money - as they bloody well should for the one of the best players in the league - or the AFL make him an ambassador or a combination of the above.

And he stays. He will have been up there for what, six or seven years then. Have a house and a missus and his beloved dog - a life.

Sure his Dad scrounged out a few seasons with us when Bob Hawke was PM. Josh BFNAAK but really, will that matter?

Our only genuine hope of getting him is to play brilliant footy next year, like, make a prelim, massive improvement, and GWS to fall in a real hole.

Do not get your hopes up. And do not believe shit from folks here (including me, who was all aboard the Kelly train last year)

I've been told by the one person I know who actually has real life genuine high level contacts (beyond contacts actually, but I'm not going any further) at the club that right up to the wire this week we were genuinely unsure if Gaff would come or not.

All we knew was that if he left, it was going to be to us.

But this person says we were not told he was coming, no assurance or promise was made, Gaff didn't renege on anything.

Some people in and around the club may have chosen to believe we had, Connors probably worded stuff so people could take it that way if they wished to, but the idea on Wednesday he said for sure 100 per cent I'm a North player, then on Sunday walked back, nah, didn't happen.

So be very very wary on Kelly.

On the bright side, I do know from an impeccable source that one club's recruiter thinks Tarryn Thomas has the most upside of any player in this draft. As in on staff, big name recruiter.

That they would take him in a second if they could with their first pick.

I'd much rather Tarryn reach that ceiling organically at North than pinch another club's gun, even Josh Kelly.

The bottom line is that as much as we all want to know the state of negotiations and trade targets, it's in nobody's best interests to be having them leaked to the internet. If you were a player discissing your future and it became apparent that your private conversations and meetings were being leaked to bigfooty posters you'd be livid. In fact in many ways it would suit players and managers to have misinformation out in the public forum. It's not the fault of the inner scrotes that what they were told turned out to be wrong. I'm sure most were acting in good faith. But what we take away should be that when million dollar contracts are on the line the truth is always going to be a secondary consideration.
That's why I always take everything I read on here with a grain of salt. But I still love reading for the laughs. There are some genuinely funny buggers on here when we don't take it all too seriously. Go Roos!

Thanks mate - you’re class! There’s not been much of that around today.

His father should have schooled him about integrity and honor instead.

I think it was the health thing ....his dad is alleged to have said mate stay I’ll be ok ...something of that ilk.

Lastly as I said to someone else today look at the big free agent signings/trades in the last 5 years ..if you paid gaff 1.3tnis is what would happen ...you can’t afford anyone else

Dangerfield to Geelong ...Geelong is declining
Swans ...buddy ....ditto
Ablet left Geelong ....Geelong wins flag
Hawks won flags without buddy

Gaff at 1.3 would hamstring your cap severely

Good luck for next year and I’ll get outa here ok

While any fan creams his pants at the thought of elite players coming to their club, and our very own Wayne Carey says the same thing; its better for all if they stay, especially as one club players. Its better for the value of trades, better for club culture, better for fans etc.

Frustrations of trades that don't come to fruition even when the offer is so damn high is the feeling of drafting said player when they could have, because keeping them is the easy part. Getting them to move is the hard part, and drafting in of itself is a risk. At least you know what you're buying with free agency to a degree.

I don't wish any ill will on Gaff, he probably made the right choice in the end.
It just really really ****ing sucks to be turned down yet again at the 11th hour. it really is annoying as shit.

Yeah you guys are smaller club in the Melbourne landscape ..that’s bloody hard

Yes we are happy to retain him

Bit he would dent your cap servely at 1.3 mil per season .....he’s not worth that

$1.142 million

Ironically, the eagles would be paying him very close to that now.

They increased on the $900K
