The Durdin experiment actually isn't the world's worst idea. I think he actually would do well.
Exactly. I've been carrying on about this all year. We did it with Petrie and Cats did it with Mooney to great effect. The mids just need to learn to read the opposition rucks better. With Durdin (or even McKay) we aren't going to win many hitouts but they'd off more around the ground. There is the added bonus of being a threat forward or playing KPD if need be. Flexibility.

Hell it is where he played his best footy in the juniors.

Are people overrating Ahern's pace? From what I watched of Ahern I thought he didn't really have pace, but he didn't need it as I very much liken him to Scott Pendlebury, I think moves so well that he doesn't get caught, and looks like he has a lot of time.

Averaged more AFL fantasy points than Cunnington in 2017 when he played as inside Mid .. also average the same amount of disposals but yeah his garbage.

How many AFL Fantasy points do you have to get to win the premiership?

Seb Ross routinely racks up huge Fantasy scores, he must be the best player in the league right?

His movement and poise in traffic gives him extra speed. Ball use in conjunction with that makes him a “fast” player

The only thing that scares me is Wood at CHF.
Hopefully McKay or Durdin come in and grab hold of that position..

It takes a solid list analysis from a guy who doesn't even go for our team to make any sense on this board. SMFH, well done mate solid deduction.

Whilst I think the deal by us was a bit gutless just in terms of Melbourne wanting Preuss, and wanting to get rid of Tyson, why are we the team paying the extra on top of that deal?

That being said Tyson is clearly the better player, more experience, better form, it was just all signs pointed towards us bending over Melbourne for perhaps more points for our picks.

I think Essendon, Hawthorn and especially Gold Coast were all waiting in the wings for Tyson if we didn't deal with North.

GC and North were the only ones with players we wanted (Preuss and Koladashnij) and Dom preferred to stay in Melbourne over Qld. Even still, we did have a bit of power in the fact that Preuss only wanted to play for Melbourne and Dom would have played at any of the three Vic clubs.

I wouldn't look at it as gutless, I think in some circumstances it takes a brave list manager to pay what may be perceived as slight overs to land a fish they have their eye on. Our board went on a rampage after giving second rounders to Essendon for both Melksham and Hibberd. In hindsight they were both well worth it because they settled into roles that were required for our team structure. I think you'll find this deal is similar in the long run.

So pre trade week we thought we wanted

Polec Gagf Newman Hall

We got

Polec Tyson Pittard Hall

So it's Tyson vs Gagf as the only real change from what we expected. Quite likely Gagf's decision moved us from a no thanks on Tyson to a sure why not.

Pittard's no worse than Newman and probably cheaper. Tyson is a different type to Gaff and not as good and cost more, but arguably still fills a need as an extra mature body inside. Getting him for Preuss is better IMHO than clogging up the list with a Miles or Townsend. Would have preferred to gain rather than lose points via that one but meh.

Pittard for free, 62 for Clarke is marginally better than Clarke for Newman. So passing it on is no great loss, especially since all those shitty 4th rounders need to have matching list vacancies. Would expect some future picks to come in to play to deal with Hall and list spots, and our 2019 4th is already gone. We've got 42, 48 and 58 in the 3rd round. Give one of them to GC for Hall and their 2019 4th? Getting the points in the right place to use them on TT and BS will be interesting for Joyces and McMahons.

Scott wont be discounted by 20%

He'll likely be discounted by more than 20%.

If he goes after pick 18 (first round) it will be:
"The AFL has settled on a maximum discount of 20 per cent for academy and father-son players in the first round. After that, the discount will be fixed at 197 points - the discount for pick 18."

It's fixed at 197 so if he was say picked at 25 (756 points - 197 points). That's actually a 26% discount. The discount % gets bigger the later he gets picked.

Also demonstrates it hasn't been a bad week for us!

Preuss -> Zac Clarke maybe?

The big hole is Waite
This was always going to be the case. Nateral Talent like w8 is pretty rare. I really think carlton underated him big time, either that or his earlier constant indescresions made them impatiant. Anyway thats history now and we were fortinate to benifit from it just like brisbane did with pike when we were over him.

Higgins endorses North’s Polec, Pittard, Tyson acquisitions
AFL Nation - Fri, 12th Oct 2018 - 0 Comments

North Melbourne star Shaun Higgins has endorsed the club’s signing of Jared Polec, explaining the “important role” he will play next year.

The Kangaroos secured Polec’s services in a trade with Port Adelaide earlier this week. The arrangement also saw the Roos acquire Jasper Pittard and pick 48, while the Power received pick 11 and a future fourth-round selection.

“Polec is one of the top five wingmen in the competition, I think he was rated,” Higgins told NAB AFL Trade Radio.

“He is clearly going to fill an important role on the outside for us.

“He uses the ball really well, he breaks the lines and he can also use the ball well off half back. That’s the ideal scenario for him and he has also gone through the middle at times.

“It links a little bit into the Pittard role as well, Jasper coming off half back, which is an area we can get better at in terms of our ball movement off half back.”

Polec played all 22 games this season, averaging a career-high 25.1 disposals.

Higgins also is looking forward to the influence Dom Tyson can have in the middle.

“Dom Tyson probably just adds to what Scotty (coach Brad Scott) has been saying over the last 12-24 months, developing a really deep midfield that can challenge the best and he is going to go a long way in giving us that depth we need through the midfield,” Higgins said.

Correct - everyone keeps calling 197 points the maximum discount (even the AFL does, in its explanation). It's actually a minimum.
