By Sam McClure
On October 12, Fremantle announced they had pulled out of the race for Jesse Hogan.

"We have been undertaking a due diligence process as part of a possible trade to secure Jesse Hogan," head of football Peter Bell said.

"As part of that process, we have had discussions with Jesse, the player's management and Melbourne.

"While discussions were proceeding, it became clear that what Melbourne would be seeking for a trade would not be possible for our club to meet.

"As such, we have informed Melbourne and Jesse's management that we will not be continuing further with the due diligence process."

Well, they did continue.

The Dockers ended up accepting the deal that Melbourne would have done anyway (picks six and 23).

Bell will argue that they ended up getting the best deal for Fremantle, but it's now unlikely that they'll be able to bluff another club anytime soon."

What a dickhead.

Agree McClure is a knob.

Bell didn't bluff, the due diligence included assessing whether a 8 year deal was appropriate. 8 year deal wasn't appropriate.

Due diligence restarted when a different contract was on the table.

Well played Belly, well played.

Do you think the 8 years is true though? I tend to think it may be fake news on the basis of the disparity between the 8 allegedly requested for and the 3 that was actually given. Could be wrong though
