Yeah would think somewhere around a late 3rd/4th would be around the mark. We don't have any picks there so the pick would need to come from another transaction.
Future picks can be traded can't they?

I think at the right price something in the vicinity of that suggested for Frampton would be very smart list management with the departure of Jacobs and Hunter and the impending departure of Alex Keath. Apart from Luke Jackson who is probably only a year or 2 away from AFL ready the other 2 promising ruck prospects in this draft Charlie Comben and Nick Bryan are longer term projects I would think. There doesn't seem to be much quality in "big" men available in the State Leagues or on AFL lists already and not getting opportunities. Billy Frampton and Lloyd Meek would be the 2 I'd be looking at.

The range of players wanting out is depressing, our player retention is worse than GC.

The only silver lining is that many of the trades suggested involve GC, so hoping Adelaide are lining up the priority pick. AFC needs new kids, GC needs experienced bodies, thanks AFL we'll take our current pick and the priority to the draft
Dreaming, the reason the AFL will give GC pick 1 is so they can draft Rowell and Anderson together to lessen the go home factor. Picks 1 & 2 won't be traded.

Wrong, all that will mean is the likely outcome is they'll lose 2 top talents and not one.

Who knows, that's for end of 2021, but they won't be trading those two picks, Rowell and mate Anderson GC bound.

GC costing AFL coffers twice as much as budgeted for with no sign of improving so AFL has to do something significant and now to stop the bleeding at GC, the package they announce will be far more than just the number 1 PP.

Yeah could be a future pick. I feel as though we will end up with some loose change picks after the deals for Keath, Greenwood, Betts, Jacobs, Jenkins and whoever else leaves so should have a spare pick we can use.

I agree that it would be a smart pickup of we can get him for the right price, we need a backup ruck for Sauce anyway so he fills that need.

Tom Read if we want a ruck rather than a forward.

Frampton>>>>>>>>>>>>Read IMO, A Ruck/Forward is our want more than a Ruckman. With fitness that bloke may already be on our list anyway in Strachan but I still think Frampton at the right price is a smart list decision.

Disagree, Read is a much better option.

Speaking of being disingenuous - Lynch was a 1st round draft pick who just needed opportunity and Seedsman had won an ANZAC day medal but struggled with injury. 2 of the rare occasions we were able to trade in players with at least some kind of pedigree.

I don’t buy the argument it’s a complete free hit either - it’s still a draft pick, still salary and still a list spot that for a player that will take development.

That said we’ve clearly identified him as a target so it’s likely he’ll be on our list next year - waste of time arguing about it. For mine a wholly uninspiring move which is consistent with our recruiting generally

Not every pick up needs to be inspiring. Sometimes a couple of low value “boring” picks are required, especially in the key position/ruck space.

Reality is we’ve lost 2 ruckman from our list and are highly likely to lost a Key Forward/Ruck. Ruck especially is a difficult position to cover, there’s generally 1 spot in the side available as few rucks can genuinely play key position.

Frampton is cheap, has some high level qualities that suggest he has some potential and is absolutely ready made to play a role either as a ruck or a key forward.

From my discussions with someone at Port who watches him every week. Has plenty of talent, but has a bit of the McKernans in that he mixes the very good with the worst of brain fades.

As an example, probably would have played for the Power after his game against us, but because he sniped Wilson, ended up getting himself suspended for 2 weeks instead.

For mine, there’s a reasonable amount of talent there, needs to mature a bit still, but at the very least offers a good back up, which we need.

It does, Read was on Geelong's list and deemed not up to AFL standard by Stephen Wells.
Players don't stop improving at 21.

I'm not against recruiting Billy but let's see it for what it is, a chance to replenish SANFL stocks.

Stephen Wells isn't some infallible God either, I mean their list is about to hit a very sizable wall.

I like tommy Read but having watched him this year for Sturt, he competes well at SANFL level but he has got bullied by bigger bodies - like Baulderstone in the elimination final for example. He has found his level and SANFL is no mugs game - it is still a very good level

Had a year ruined by injury. Beat Big Sam at the Parade earlier in the year too.

I missed that game because I was at Marvel Stadium watching one of the most insipid performances the crows put in for some time against what was a bottom 2 side in North - at that time. I should have stayed in Adelaide and gone to the parade

Seedsman had won an ANZAC day medal but struggled with injury.
I have to say, I have always struggled with the ANZAC medal being used to legitimise a players value or skill. It is a glorified BOG in one game of the year that no other teams get the opportunity to participate in.

If the Gold Coast get a Priority Pick, and Brad Crouch asks for a trade.

I’d push for....

Pick 1 and 2 from the Gold Coast for Brad Crouch, Huge Greenwood, Riley Knight and pick 21

Head to the draft with 1, 2 and 4 would be amazing.

Absolutely, if GC want Brad Crouch, they’re ponying up big time for him.

I'm not looking for an argument here because you're a poster I really respect but I've watched quite a few of Tom Read's VFL games and I've watched a few of Sturt's games over the last couple of year's and from what I've seen his kicking which was downright awful and the main reason he slipped through to the AFL Rookie Draft doesn't look to have improved a whole lot over time to my eye and IMO would be a disaster at AFL level. Frampton is no Darren Jarman foot skills wise but he's a whole lot better than Tom Read on what I've seen and a whole lot more aggresive at the contest.

Why do you think the vic clubs all support this. They know that it will be a lottery between 10 clubs for another two A graders. These drafts are mostly compromised in favour of vic clubs when you look at where 99% of this first round talent goes after a transit on the Gold Coast or Western Sydney.

I would be supporting the extra pick for Gold Coast too if I thought we were a good chance to cash in on it.

yeah..they would have looked at it and thought - if Melbourne get anderson, they will get Rowell in 2 years time..lets vote to allow GC to get a PP so they both go there then in 2 years (maybe 1) it will be open season to get them back to Victoria

Oh dear - Sauce played 13 games for Carlton in the year we traded him including a BOG effort in the Elim Final v Syd.

Jenkins was on ESS list for just 1 season before we traded him in and played regular footy in his 2nd year.

O’Brien played 2 games in his 1st year on the list, and in just his 4th year produced his break out season.

All silly examples. Frampton 3 games in 5 years! But hey, everyone is very excited that we have a trade target who might even choose us. I should just be very grateful.

O'Brien was drafted in 2014 though and as a 19 year old. ROB was 23 and on 2 games before this year.

I live in Melbourne and was at that game. I should have driven over and gone to the Parade with you.
