Basic cricket theory. You don't throw away the benefit of building a lead and then having to bat last unless you are going to roll them for a subpar score

Its the first session pal. Plenty of time left to roll them for a 'subpar' score.

Gee who knows - days 2 and 3 might be just glorious for batting.

Last test at The Oval

Siddle took 6 wickets
Starc went wicketless as Australia won by an innings.

Yeah hard to see why they’d think Siddle would be better here...

By that last Test in 2015 Starc was buggered. He had bowled been bowled more than most. He concentrated on line and length and dropped his pace. That's why his E/R was so good in that Test, low 2's for both innings.

Exactly...

perhaps Paine should have left this one, like he did those other ones you mention as Warner looked in good position to catch it.
Paine's footwork was very poor with the other ones - he was wrong footed or had stood up too early or both. I don't think he actually left them, he was just nowhere near them.

Even though this one was straight to Warner, any good first grade keeper takes that 10 out of 10 times. It was absolute rubbish from supposedly the best in the country. So many good keepers in this country at first grade level have been ignored due to so called talent identification.
