I thought Reville was the most impressive of the lot. Pace and skilful. Even though he got a fair bit of the ball I wasn't that impressed by Will Martyn. Turns it over a fair bit and doesn't have a heap of pace.

You don’t believe Wischnat is good enough for the National Draft?

He’s one kid I was really hoping would step it up this year for the academy.
Pretty much played full forward all game and can take a mark but not the size for key position and not fast. Where did you see him playing mostly, I haven't seen him before?

And indications are it won't be us he chooses.

Can you expand on this? I’d heard differently.

He may not even be in Essendon zone anymore if the reports of him moving are accurate.

Hopefully he gets drafted if for no other reason than the nickname.

Hope he makes it , good kid who has overcome some big challenges. Has Jason Dunstall like hands on the lead, booming kick. Could be a third tall

Plenty of talent in the Lions Academy and not all need to kick goals to influence a game. Most of the goals came from work further up the ground from defensive efforts allowing the mids and forwards to get on the end of some good work. Lions had 3 tall defenders (Hammond, Ward & Haberer) who didn't get a lot of the ball yet would have had 15 spoils between them (insert Spud Frawley & the Golden Fist here) and saved a heap of goals. One huge spoil in the last QTR from Half Back - Griffiths (22 disp) directly set up Martin for a great goal. Two way running and defensive structure foiled a lot of GWS forward attempts. Three bottom ages in Michael (9 disp & 2 goals), Crozier (16 disp) & Abberley (11 disp) contributed really well and will dominate in 2020. Go Lions Screen Shot 2019-04-01 at 6.59.02 am.png

Whats the story with Keiden Coleman? He wasnt drafted last year but did i see him named in our neafl team in a trial or something this year? Can he be drafted this year, midseason or end of year draft? Am i right in thinking he is a running half back? Has he got potential? Is he one of those kids that may mature into a good player, like a Tim Kelly? Obviously i dont know much about this kid so any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

We cant participate in the midseason draft unless someone from our list disappears.........I think.

Coleman is part of our U19 academy this year.

I'm honestly not sure if U19 Academy kids can be drafted by other clubs in the mid year draft.

Rules for the midseason draft:

Who can clubs recruit?
Clubs will be able to draft any footballers who have already been on an AFL list, or who nominated for the 2018 NAB AFL Draft.

Any player delisted at the end of 2018 cannot be re-selected by the club that delisted them, unless they nominated for last year's NAB AFL Draft.

There will be a five-day window for players to nominate for the Mid-Season Rookie Draft from Monday April 29 to Friday May 3.

I reckon they can, because as your quote contained:

U19 academy kids are those passed over in the previous draft. Sydney wasn't allowed to put Ben Davis back into their academy as an U19 player because he skipped his draft year and didn't nominate.

Thanks for the drafting clarification, and i guess from last years draft players can be drafted from anywhere at any age. Any clarification on his potential, can he develop and mature into a good player capable of holding down a spot in the firsts as a running halfback?

Lions Academy have 6 players in the 2019 Allies squad so I would imagine they must be going ok. Martin, Griffiths, Reville, Crozier, Ryan & Tozer.

Do you mean the Allies Academy?

I am wondering if players from outside Allies Academy can be selected for the Allies squad for U18 Championships.

Always found it curious, from someone who is very much a spectator on the outside, why Wischnat wasn’t selected as part of the initial Allies Academy. While Tozer, who might not come back from his most recent knee reconstruction in time, was selected.

Yes I believe they will add another 20 players to the Allies after the academy series is finished, play 2 practice matches in Melbourne v Vic Metro & Vic Country then pick the team for the National Series.

Wischnat is an interesting one, not tall, not short so in between what type of player he is. On baller or forward? A couple of hand ball receive goals on the weekend makes the stats look better.

Tozer has had knee issues for years and multiple operations unfortunately. Currently battling knee & shin splints so hasn’t ran since Christmas I’m told.

Briz .. I think he is a 2020 kid...

44. Sam Witherden
DOB: 24 June 2002
Height: 189cm
Weight: 80kg
Previous Club: Barwon Heads
I know he is.

Quite a few of us campaigning for the Lions to draft Tom Berry for two years.

Now we’ll start on Sam.

We’re all for uniting talented brothers and best friends here at the Lions. We’re a family club after all.

We need to also unite the Cameron brothers. Imagine two Charlie's in the forward line.

Thank you for the reply and insight. It’s great to have someone close to the Academy commenting here.

That’s been my suspicion for a while now. How close the comparison is, will be interesting to see. I get the impression McFadyen may be the more athletic/mobile of the two, while Wischnat is bigger body able to out muscle other kids his height.
