Nah, Brisbane in that situation would be acting unethical, opportunistic if you will. If we just proceed to unbutton our pants for the 100th time expecting a new result is pretty much the definition of insanity. Afraid to change the algorithm. Self respect is admirable folks.
Example you already lost respect of me, why I need self respect for myself. Self respect is not based on how people perceive me but how I see myself ethically. You can't please everyone in this money world. Even a delisted player like Barlow used ah chee as an eg that he don't know how to prepare himself professionally as AFL player.

Cheap and slow heavyweight former north player M hibberd from VFL williamtown.

I don't understand this at all
Could you explain how you see the psychology of this statement playing out?
And why?
Well I would think if you are good mates with someone who is moving workplaces because he is getting better pay/job security and then you see the workplace try and make it hard for him even though he has seen out his contract, they might not think too highly of the organisation.

But that is just my read on it. Everyone there might be glad he is leaving and there may be no issue at all.

Lions can't afford to break their promise and would damage their reputation with players much more. It's not like we would be asking for pick 2 :) Yes, in my opinion pick 15 is over but all Suns need to do is to say pick 15 or don't bother calling and then wait and Lions will cough it up in the end. Get the best possible deal in circumstances. It would also send a message to opposition that if you are after our players, it will not be easy for you and you will have to pay overs.

Don’t be afraid to change the algorithm, take your emotional hats off, change the circumstances to a business model (which it is). If the business is not financially viable, the way you have been conducting business will more than likely need addressing. In this instance the player ROI. We don’t train folks and sell them for unders and then blame the stables. In the past that may have been the case, but not anymore. We have world class facilities, the most assisted players with respect to player retention, amazing atmosphere and solid culture. We can’t blame the stables anymore. It’s how we negotiate, conduct business and balance our books moving forward.
Very well said. It can’t be forgotten that the amount of money put into the development of the player must also be taken into account. When Des Headland left the Lions, I remember they wanted compensation for the estimated $1m invested in his development as part of the trade to Fremantle.

Put simply Ah Chee has never lived up to his implied ability and been a relative failure for the team overall. Has ability no doubt but just never showed it over any period of time. He's doing a runner which isn't nice and we should try and get the best we can - 15 would be nice but Brisbane also probably realise he's not worth that. I'd look for a swap rather than a trade position - Eli Smith or Hinge for example. Bigger upside than Ah Chee and both should be on a similar level given their lack of games. Time will tell but Ah Chee's of the world are not required here.

Yes, that would be my preferred option too. I would definitely talk to some of Lions young players waiting in NEAFL. Next year some of them will be waiting 3 years for opportunity.

FYI the 2020 draft is expected to be particularly weak. They can stick Fisher up their ass. He's ok but he's undersized and drifts out if the game. I'm not even sure he is better than Darcy.

Put their 2019 1st Rd pick as a starting point and they can get a little something back.
Adelaide already have their 2019 1st rounder as part of the Stocker deal.

It may be tempting to believe so. However, from reports in the media and the knowledge on our own board, the Lions aren't having any problems attracting players. Weighing against any inability to strike a deal for an uncontracted Ah Chee would be the proven examples of being able to strike a deal for the contracted Neale and Cameron. I'm sure the Lions will deal reasonably for Ah Chee like they did in both those cases and come to some sort of agreement, but I don't see them being held to ransom on this either.

I'd be hoping for the best outcome for my club too, but I'd also be tempering my expectations in case the bargain is struck at a level lower than what I would have personally demanded.

If we don't need pick 40 and we value him higher than wait it right out. The Lions particularly need to be brought to heel for the s**t they pulled with Lyons and now Ah Chee.
I understand there's a dislike of the Lions for getting the better end of the Lyons saga, and in your shoes I'd probably feel similarly. Let's also not rewrite history, however. The Lions weren't holding a metaphorical gun to Cameron's head and demanding he release Lyons on pain of a worse outcome. The Suns had every right to hold Lyons to his contract and chose not to do so, citing that he was going to struggle for a senior game and was blocking the development of younger players. At the time it may have made sense to release him, if it saved cap space on someone who wasn't in the best 22 this year anyway. And I did feel bad that we were getting him without the Suns receiving any compensation in return. But the most the Lions did was offer a potential deal to a fringe player, it's not like the Suns were being forced to accept it.

Ah Chee trade has a lot to play out. I’d be surprised if Freo don’t get involved as they need something positive at the moment and could easily trump Brisbane.
He does seem a little fragile and a return to WA might appeal to him.
Lions are drinking their own bath water. They never played any of the top teams twice and were injury free. A nasty straight sets might change their views and value of Ah Chee.

I'd be doing the same in your position. I doubt Corey Lyons or Ely will want to move to the Suns, but Keays, Ballenden, Skinner and even Cox might be open to it if they see a path to more playing time.

After Chris Fagans comments I hope the Lions get butt f’ed by Richmond this weekend.
Asking in good faith here, which comments do you mean? I did a search for it and could only find him complimenting the Suns in general and Dew in particular.

Could you please explain why this is the case? His talent and body of work is what it is and the Lions are interested in acquiring him on that basis. What we do in the finals doesn't change that.

Lions and Lyons waited until after trade period to request to be de-listed - that's the issue. According to Suns list manager Suns told Lyons they were happy for him to explore trade but according to Lyons's agent there was no interest. Do you believe that? Lions could deal with Suns during trade period and offer future pick, whatever. It's not far fetched to speculate that Lions (Ambrogio) had an inside knowledge that Suns will de-list Lyons anyway for nothing so they initiated the process after trade period.

There are more valuable young players on your list waiting for opportunity. I agree I don't see them to go to Suns at the moment. But it would not surprise me if some of them leave next year to other teams if Lions still have no injuries and they don't play AFL. No promising player wants to get stuck in NEAFL for 3 years.

Well if you are suggesting that Lyons was going to be delisted anyway, what’s the issue? I’d be redirecting your anger towards Gold Coast for that decision. Not the lions. Utterly mind blowing.

What are you asking? Why I think the Lions are drinking their own bath water, why they never played the top teams twice, why they never had injuries, or why a straight sets thumping might make you realise you need more talent coming in?

Lyons only useful in a team that’s winning and has momentum, when momentum changes he’s the invisible man and becomes a liability if you want to turn the game around.
He was useless to us but given your draw and no injuries he’s been an asset to you.
Once again you have come in with snarly condescending remarks on our board. I’m over it.
I’d be very disappointed if one of ours conducted himself how you do on the Brisbane Board.

Go Captain Bedwetter!
Go Germball!
Go Pea Heart Caddy!
