Still looked a good player when he got some games midyear - don't really want to see him taking a spot of Scrimshaw though. But if he can get his body right can still be a big asset. Big if though.
Having Scrim and Birchall both competing for spots in the side is a good problem to have.

I don’t see a downside to this at all.

I reckon Birch should become our 'break glass in case of an emergency' type player. There will come a point some time next season where we'll need him but not needed to play 20+ games.

I remember Melbourne doing something similar and got Tyson and Salem while losing out on Kelly. We all know who won that deal.
Possibly - but think draft is pretty even after first 2. Also needs to be in context of trade Adelaide did with Carlton last year. Turned not much into a lot of picks.

If Hawks were only offering a rookie contract then it doesnt necessarily mean that something planned has fallen over I wouldnt think
The plan could simply be that we have Sicily, Impy, Scrimshaw, Hardwick as medium/small defenders and rebounders. We then have Frost coming in to also provide run as a tall and stratton as the medium lock down. For depth we have CJ and Glass that are at the point were they need senior games to improve. Birch is one we can afford to lose considering he has barely played in 3 years, is old and needing to be replaced anyway. Happy we gave him the option to stay happy but lions may be a better fit at this stage different training program hopefully he can get number 5.

Crouch one million a year lol, and to think some thought Richmond to keep Dusty for 1.1-1.2 mill a year was overs.
Martin is on 1.4 mill a year plus incentives plus $250 for every autograph his signs plus another couple of mill a year in endorsements he got for playing for Richmond as opposed for North.

Still better value than Crouch on a mill, bonafide match winner is Martin.

Looks like clubs are paying a fair bit for established players this draft period perhaps with the shallow draft next season,

Kelly 4xpicks, 2xfirst 2xsecond round picks. Hill 2xpicks First round. (likely)

Not much happening on our front but we are getting a good look at what we would have to give up to get a star.

Mitchell for a first rounder is the biggest draft steal in comparison.

Massive steal! let's hope he is back to his best next yr, i would love to see him and Worps in the guts smashing blokes.

I reckon the hawks will be sitting back pretty looking for another steal when everyone done.
