If he doesn’t tackle in an aggressive manner, does he deserve a week off from the senior side because he doesn’t shut down the play?

Might end his career if he cannot tackle with intent.

I was trying not to be long winded and blaming umpires, but geez, I feel like we’ve been hard done by on holding the ball decisions this year.

We seem to be holding players in the tackle for a long time, but not long enough for the umpire to blow the whistle.

Eventually the ball spills free and it’s seldom to our advantage.

Setterfields tackle was great, I said aggressive previously which has pushed buttons with some, but the tackle was aggressive with intent, and that’s what we need! The Gold Coast player wasn’t getting out of that tackle, just unfortunate his head hit the ground so hard, so Will is now out of action.

Where have I said to corrupt the system??? The system is corrupt. How does suggesting us to have a voice in the media to fight for us and the same at AFL level mean being corrupt? It doesn’t... what it does suggest is its time for us to get a fair go!!! Level the playing field.

We have been on the back foot ever since Elliot was ousted. Not condoning what was done in that era, but bloody hell at least we had a strong voice. Nowadays we are too scared to say anything!!!

I don't suppose you heard the interview with Kennett on 3AW on Sat morning?
You can say all you want as a Club President, but the AFL are a law to themselves, and answerable to no-one. They are not an elected body.
Challenge them at your peril.

You want us to get Carlton people into prominent positions - the media, the tribunal - and to have them advocate for Carlton in lieu of their position; in short, you want to use their roles to soften the force of the rules.

If a system is already corrupt, and you seek to place more corrupt people within it, in what way are you not making it more corrupt?

It’s not about challenging the AFL and calling BS. It’s about having a voice. Having people like Juddy tonight, constantly in the media and dissolving the nay sayers. Shutting down the stupid questions that are only there to bring us down. The media has it in for us and to an extent so does the AFL. What is wrong with having a few Carlton people there to represent the club. Every other club does so why can we not? We are naive to think this doesn’t matter...

This one’s for you Bamboo Harvester

My son is a little upset about the outcome and he sent me this from the Carlton v Collingwood game last year. The boy has a mind like a steel trap. I’m not sure who he gets that from.

I think I know where he may get it from Robbo, and it aint his Mum ;)

That is a brilliant example of a tackle not unlike Setters where the player ends up with a headknock. I have no issues at all with Sidebottom in that incident, in fact you could see the duty of care he had after it...nothing malicious or intentional. As a supporter I would have been disappointed if he had have been sanctioned for that.

It's a fair point Pater....we've seen the influence that tossers like Wheatley have had on decisions made by the AFL....of course we can't prove it definitively, but the public groundswell that these media commentators create must have a level of influence on decisions made a HQ...if nothing else, it helps to reinforce the public sentiment with the decisions they may make along the way without fear of public repercussion.

So, because everyone else is doing the wrong thing we should too? You raise children?

What is naivety is expecting things to change if we get people into influential roles. Fitzpatrick was second in command at the AFL; it help us any? We had most of the panel on Before the Game following us; we've still got two of the three on the Front Bar. We've got Judd in FC. That helping us any?

You want to know what gets the AFL media onside? Winning. Let's do more of that, and less whinging about how unfair things are.

What is not fair is the proposed solution, ie getting Carlton people into positions of power/influence in order to use that power/influence to favour ourselves. It is one thing to observe a corrupt system; it is quite another to be complicit both in its corruption and the continuation of it.

Clean it up. Remove the external voices, from the Geelongs, the Richmonds, the Essendons and of course the bloody Hawthorns, and make the tribunal/match review something to be respected instead of 'chook lotto'.

Totally agree Gethelred...however, whilst you continue to have the presence of commentators in the media, it is an issue that can never be resolved without the involvement of the AFL to counter it....which we know can never happen under the governance that controls these bodies.

These external voices can't be removed...in fact, with the increasing number of media outlets available now in its various forms, the voices are getting stronger and more influential.

I don't particularly want us to be part of that noise, but we can't deny that these will continue to exist in it's current form....and 'chook lotto' will continue to favour those with the loudest voices. And some of those voices would be coming from AFL HQ itself.

Admirable attitude but how can that possibly happen? By getting enough people not listening or watching? By influencing the AFL? Good luck with that.
You affect only that which you can affect - yourself, and your own conduct - and you bring attention to undue influence wherever you see it. If AFL house dislikes what you bring to light, simply tell them that, in the interests of their sport, to clean it up themselves or you'll do it for them via exposure.

If they don't like it, there's not a great deal they can do to us they're not already doing.

Correct.

How can a player get 2 weeks for a natural part of the game tackling but throwing elbows and punches you get a fine or a week ******* AFL is a farce.
Yes the poor kid was concussed not good but it wasn't a sling it was a great tackle that unfortunately the kid got knocked out. Yet again the AFL go with the outcome not the action Joke.
Yeah.....it should be the intent not the outcome because Setters applied a normal tackle that had unfortunate consequences, but he never tried to drive his head into the ground or sling him down as hard as he could................I for one have decided not to watch anymore games this year because of the afl and their stinking new rules designed to make the game more "mamby pamby", but I will just be hoping that Carlton can improve during the season. I will never desert my club, but the diving/staging free kicks that damn Brown from NM got against ADE just pissed me off so much that I just cannot watch any more of that rubbish!!! I think the afl should chuck out all these new rules and stop complicating our great game!!! As far as I am concerned the game has just become so damn over umpired and precious, and bloody Gil and hocking are to blame for ruining our game as a spectacle..............go blues and appeal that 2 week ban imposed on Setters, because if Dusty can get his sentence reduced then Setters should only get a week for his tackle.............bloody Christian plays favourites with the afl pin-up boys............The boys at afl house are just a tiny bit paranoid:eek: about the soccer mums out there for mine............o_O

Have a panel responsible for assessing and grading incidents, who watch the match live on a telly with no sound, flag incidents by timestamp, and make their judgements immediately following the game. Lock them in a bunker, give them a secure line to the broadcaster who can provide additional vision as required.

No outside contact, no media access, I wouldn't even want to know who they are.

Incident at 17:51 in the 3rd quarter.
Request all vision from 17:30 to 18:30.
Assess, review, discuss, grade, adjudicate.

Tribunal exists for appeals and serious incidents.

I wish every tackle Carlton made every time was as good as Setterfield's. A more experienced Coach or management team might be more front foot on a number of issues- maybe they are doing it behind closed doors..
