McClure trying to explain to Dal Santo why it matters that Papley is contracted for 4 years was torturous.
They really need to get rid of him.... even Lloyd is making an effort now...

How is Lloyd making an effort suggesting Essendon get picks 5 & 8 for a cripple who can't get on the park?

All the while everyone is suggesting pick 32 is OK to give up for a fit contracted KPF with similar career stats who has played the first quarter of his career as a defender?

Trade radio is embarrassingly off the mark.

I dunno how you can be so fkg clueless yet get such a prominent gig.
I look forward to the day Jenkins takes his job personally.... he actually has interesting things/ideas often to put out there. Atleast he promotes intelligent discussion.

It's all relative... previous years he was awful.... ignore everything about Essendon though with him, he's still a long way off being neutral.

Atleast now he's offering insight into other kids.

Dal Santo asked McClure this morning 'Does papley want to be traded?'.

The arrogance of having absolutely no idea what you are talking about, but happily going on radio and acting like you are an expert.

Barrett is a little over the top but he’s essentially right.

The compo picks actually infringe on clubs making FA moves and generally seem to favour the top teams.

People hate it when elite players like Lynch leaves the bottom teams to join the top teams.

Say there was no compo last year, Gold Coast would’ve matched the deal and would’ve forced a trade that Richmond couldn’t have appeased. So either Lynch could’ve joined another team who could make a fair trade or stay at Gold Coast. The system would be more equitable imo.

How does the compensation favour the top teams?

Tell that to Hawthorn who got pick 19 for Franklin while Melbourne got pick 3 for Frawley.

The fact band 1 compo is tied to finishing position explicitly works against sides that finish higher.

Reasons why lower teams are made worse off with compo:

1. Once a quality player opts to leave a bottom club, that club can no longer bring in free agents as it will cost them their quality compo pick, creating a cycle where you have constantly developing teams that the top teams can cherry pick from.
2. In the rare case that a bottom team can convince a top ranked team player to jump ship, the top team is given further trade ammunition in a compo pick that they can use for further trading in the period. These top teams don’t need further chips to manouver.
3. In the event of this scenario, players who leave high ranked teams almost always do it because they’ve been persuaded with a more lucrative contract (generally players who leave bottom clubs take a pay cut) the result of this is that top teams generally receive overs as compo for players who wouldn’t warrant that draft pick (Motlop and Ellis)

It’s going to favour my team but I don’t really understand how this team stimulates positive player movement equitably.

Maybe its just holding out hope but I dont see Richmond as being a shoe-in for band 2. Just because its more money than others doesnt mean its in the next band.

550,000 for 5 years isnt a whole lot different to 500,000 for 4. There is definitely wriggle room for it to be band 3 not band 2

That rule applies to all teams.

If FAs are one in, one out, the compensation gets diluted. That's across the board.

Top teams get FA compensation, as do weaker teams. The difference is that band 1 and band 3 compensation is tied to finishing position, which benefits the weaker teams.

That's a case by case proposition.

There are also cases of top teams getting unders (Franklin) and weak teams getting overs (Frawley), so you can't make the blanket statement.
