It seems a little condescending to suggest they should be part of the regional competition of the team they have essentially just outplayed.

Or you know, like the USA or the county teams that get invited to play in the same tournament, he could just see it as a great opportunity for the Scottish to play more cricket in another part of the world

A little. But in a practical sense it would be a good outcome for Scottish cricket. Lack of playing opportunities could stop this squad from developing to their potential. An option to keep giving the squad playing opportunities as well as keeping them engaged in the national team could be crucial.

The Regional Super50 has been a bit odd for a while wrt teams that play in it. Hampshire and Kent got a gig this season, Ireland played in 2013-14.

I am absolutely distraught, gutted, beside myself. I have never felt this empty after a cricket match. As a Scot now living in Melbourne this tournament has sent me insane. I know some of the lads in the Scotland squad and they are destroyed. The impact this will have on Scottish cricket can not be overstated, we have ONE ODI scheduled for the rest of 2019, the ICC currently don't have any plans for a World Cricket League so I genuinely am unsure where the matches will come from. The event that inspired me to start playing cricket was watching Scotland at the 1999 World Cup; not just me but the like of Calum MacLeod, the Sole brothers and Mark Watt all inspired by that exposure. It breaks my heart that the current generation won't get to experience this. I am unsure if I have ever felt this much frustration and anger at the ICC. Not just the ridiculous World Cup format, the lack of DRS or even the lack of reserve day, not that 4 players were unable to play because they had to choose between a county career or Scotland (Davey, Main, Umeed and McCreath). I just can't believe that it came down to rain...

Zimbabwe will be ruing the decision not to bat first. That's most likely cost them the win. Rain was expected too
