Interesting chat around Perkins potentially being the first Victorian selected in the upcoming draft. Personally I have been a big fan of Perkins and have wanted Hawks to get another top 10 pick during the trade period so we could have a chance of grabbing him.

Having said this, surely Hollands has more overall talent and will be the 1st Victorian selected?

Both players are similar in a lot of ways, but Hollands just seems better with his extra height, awareness, foot skills and evasiveness.

Or are we being spooked out of selecting Hollands due to his knee injury. I recall his father Ben Hollands having an unfortunate wretched run with knee injuries troubles when he was playing for the Tigers as well.

Is there any other reasons why people are predicting Perkins as a draft bolter that I might have missed?

Ugle-Hagan will be the first Victorian selected. Doubt Perkins is drafted ahead of Hollands and Phillips.

Perkins seems to be the superior athlete; Hollands the superior footballer

I do like the look of Perkins. Big upside. But pick 4 seems a risky reach.

I guess its just really hard to rate the Victorian draft class when they have missed a year of football.

Draft scouts can't see that year of development, data and footage.

I mean just look at Logan McDonald, he has really come forward a long way in the last 12 months.

This, we have a desperate need for athleticism and power. I love Phillips, but Perkins could be anything

Pick 4 is a bit much for Perkins but you never really know on draft night. There’s a lot of players who could have elevated/lowered their draft order this year if they were playing.

I’d rather us take more of a speculative choice based on potential with our second pick.

If we're seriously considering Perkins with our first pick then we might as well trade pick 4 to the Bombers for their first two (plus whatever other swaps). Take Perkins with one of those picks plus another top 10 talent. If Bombers then take Perkins with pick 4 (fist pump) then it still means one of the top talents we've been discussing for the last couple months will slip through to us AND we still get to take that extra player too.

Pretty much agree and there's no way we'd reach for him with 4 either.

Now on the other hand, splitting our pick and using one of them on him does sound very enticing however

Seeing as there is going to be a plethora of great mids next year and not many talls (at the top end at least) I really don’t see Adelaide going with Hollands. Based on his highlights I really think Thilthorpe will be the better player than McDonald. McDonald doesn’t look anything special from what I’ve watched and it might be a case of others not being able to show their wares.

Still think it’ll go:

Adelaide: Thilthorpe/McDonald (again mids available next year and they still have another good first rounder this year)

North: McDonald/Thilthorpe (need to replace Brown and Goldstein will be wrapping up soon/already have a good young mid core)

Sydney: DGB (All signs point to this choice after Allir and other delistings)

Hawthorn: Hollands/Phillips (still hoping for Hollands as I think he’ll be a game breaker)

Also if Adelaide are thinking they need to build their midfield then Phillips is the best PURE midfielder in this draft anyway. Hollands never got too much time there and will be a hybrid.

This. If you want a player draft him with your pick. Don’t get cute and try and get him later with a risky pick swap.

I was thinking more like 6, 8 and pick swaps but I was thinking the same thing.

I would love this to happen, but surely the bombers aren't this crazy.

So one of the advantages Perkins has over Hollands is his speed and acceleration which is 17 vs Hollands 13. I have only watched highlights of both, which isn't much and I'm no expert obviously, but is the difference in speed that noticeable? I'm keen to hear your thoughts on this.

One minute I want Holland’s bad, the next it’s Phillips bad, I like the look of the SA tall bloke and want him, DGB looks great and I want him, now I want Perkins.

That gives us 6, 8, 43, 59. Gives us 2 top 10's and Downie around the mid 20's.

Gives Essendon 4, 7, 21, 40, 41.

That looks a win for both teams.

Essendon wouldn't do this unless the player they WANT is at 4 and we're about to pick him. At that point we either say 4 & NOTHING for 6 & 7 or miss you out on your bloke. We hold the power.
