We won't be doing any of these pick swaps unless a player we want drops to a getable pick, we aren't doing it just for the sake of it

Taking Hollands pick 1 then doing a live trade to move up to 5 or 6 to get Thilthorpe would be pretty exciting on the night.

B is for Bad Ass, which he surely is
I is for Inigo Montoya, his spirit animal
N is for Ninja, which he does in his spare time
U is for Unrelenting, because he cannot be stopped
K is for Killing Machine, which we cannot prove in a court of law because all the witnesses are dead

What Keyser Soze/The Joker madness will he pull off this morning?

You don't deal with Binuk. He deals with you.

I'm hoping we delist Crocker (should be a no brainer) and we play the delisted free agent rookie lottery again.

Matt Scharenberg, Sam Durdin, Ryley Stoddart and Billy Gowers are my leading contestants so far but I think there will be more players than this available with the small drop in list sizes. I expect some small number of other guys like Mitch Hinge, Brayden Ham, Lachie Schultz, Will Walker, Bailey Banfield, Ben Jarvis, Oscar McDonald, Matthew Kennedy. Hayden McLean, Brayden Ainsworth, etc to be available too.

I love the last chance saloon storyline and Ben Keays was honestly the highlight of our football year for me.

No one really stands out there, for mine. Maybe Ham, just in case Stengle ****s up again?

Thilthorpe is not a number 1 pick. We could likely get him at pick 6. If we are going Thilthorpe we should do a trade with Essendon for their pick 6 and 7 plus their future 2nd for pick 1. They want McDonald. Would give us 6,7, 9. I think we are idiots not taking McDonald and will regret it if we don't take him.
Why would you think Thilithorpe isn't a number 1??

So... how many list spots do we have? Vader ?
I'm no Sith Lord, but I can have a crack...

We were at 38 plus 4 rookies I believe.

Lost Crouch, Hartigan, Knight, Atkins, Gibbs

Lost Taylor and Wilson from rookie list

Re-signed Keays (main or rookie??)

So we are either 33 and 2 OR 34 and 1.

So pick up maximum of 5 plus 2 rookies (plus 2 cat B if available). One of these kept for Hately in PSD.

More spots if any of Poholke, Mackay, Gallucci delisted.

One more rookie spot if Crocker not re-signed.

Likely 3 (or 4) picks in ND if no more players cut.

Senior List
Currently somewhere between 3-5, depending on how many players they wish to have on the senior list in 2021.

We've lost Gibbs, Knight, Brouch, Hartigan and Atkins so far off the senior list.

In the past, Adelaide opted for the 38/6 model, due to the salary cap benefits that this permits.. The AFL has reduced senior list sizes by 2. The question is whether we'll run with a senior list size of 36, 37, or 38? We just don't know the answer to that question yet.

We still have Mackay, Gallucci, and Poholke as uncontracted players on the senior list. I will be surprised if any of them still have a job this time next week.

My guess is that our plan is as follows:
Delist: Mackay, Gooch, Dots
ND: Use picks 1, 9, 22 & 23 on "live selections"; select 2 of Borlase, Edwards & Newchurch under F/S & NGA rules.
PSD: Hately

That would leave us with 37 on the senior list.

Rookie List
This depends on the number of players we opt for on the senior list, noting that we gain an extra rookie position for every senior list position we choose not to fill. Note also that we only used 5 of a possible 6 rookie list positions in 2020.

We've lost Taylor & Wilson.
We know that Strachan & Keays have been retained.
Crocker is currently uncontracted.

36/6 - This would give us 3 rookie list vacancies, plus Crocker (if we decide to delist him).
37/5 - 2 rookie list vacancies, plus Crocker
38/4 - 1 rookie list vacancy, plus Crocker

Given the uncertainty about this draft, due to the lack of U18 football in Victoria this year, I suspect the club will wish to minimise its exposure in the RD (meaning that Crocker is likely to be given another 12 months). We may opt not to fill all of our available rookie list positions.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that Newchurch falls to the RD, and we take him as our only selection in the RD - but that's just my personal guess.

Close... we were at 38/5.

Our rookies were Keays, Crocker, Strachan, Wilson & Taylor. We passed with our last RD selection in 2019, so we didn't fill the rookie list completely (we were allowed to have 6 rookies).

** UPDATE: I just re-read the article on The Age. It appears that clubs will be limited to a maximum of 4 Cat A rookies next year, regardless of how many they have on the senior list. However, I could be misinterpreting what I'm reading. In this case, those numbers change to:
36/4 - 1 rookie list vacancy, plus Crocker (if we decide to delist him)
37/4 - 1 rookie list vacancy, plus Crocker
38/4 - 1 rookie list vacancy, plus Crocker

I appreciate and respect your analysis as usual and agree with most of it. The exception is I do not rate Crocker high enough for him to remain on the list ahead of Gooch and Mackay. Poholke is gone. IMHO that is a no brainer. Crocker has had his chances and hasn't delivered. They may or may not give one more year to Mackay or they may give Gooch one more chance to prove himself once he regains fitness. Just how I see it. I guess we will have a better idea later this month.

I would also delist croc, though I'd like to see him get a role at the club, somewhere. Seems like a quality dude.

The difference is that Crocker is on the rookie list, whereas Gooch/Mackay/Dots are on the senior list. Whether Crocker stays or goes is irrelevant to the decisions about the other players. It's not Crocker vs Gooch/Mackay/Dots, it's Crocker vs unknown RD selection.

I agree that Crocker should go. He's shown 2/3rds of 3/5ths of SFA. However, the alternative is an unknown and highly speculative RD selection. Given the extreme circumstances of 2020, with no Victorian U18 football to expose how much players have developed since their underage years, retaining Crocker may be the lower risk option.

Yes, he hinted we could possibly look at pick swaps before the draft and we could take 3 to 5 live picks. I think something will happen before draft night.

We do like our second round, live-trading pick shuffles. Hamish usually drafts pretty well in that range too.

Something like picks 23 and 40 for pick 26 and a 2021 second would be a typical move by us.

Couldn’t we move Gooch or Mackay to the rookie list?
also is it correct that if Newchurch reaches rookie list he isn’t counted as he would be categorie B?

This was my thought too, it’s very “Adelaide”.

I think trading up will be difficult given where the picks landed in the trade period. So, if we’re pulling that move and trading out of this draft with Pick 22 or 23, then hopefully we’re aiming for a 2021 1st Round pick from somebody who expects to be up there next year along with a 2020 mid to late 3rd/Early 4th for NGA/Father Son points.

We were 38 and 6. You missed Butts as a rookie
