I think Luke's body of work over his junior career should see a club at least throw a later draft pick at him, not too many kids available with his composure with ball in hand, natural footy smarts and decent all round skill set going to be around late in this draft.
How late is a "later draft pick" though? There are only 63 senior list vacancies across the entire competition, and the AFL is expecting only ~55 players to be selected in the ND this year, possibly as few as 50.

I was going to respond to your previous post, but this post is spot on - they are equally good(along with Hollands) & therefore whomever the Crows select nobody on here should squawk(BUT, they will) as too many posters nail their colours to one of the three lads, which is bizarre given we are all outside the tent when it comes to this hairy decision. As regards your last point re McDonald's "go home factor", well nobody knows, even the lad himself, right now.
the trouble is that you, and several others, keep stating that’s it’s accepted that Tillthorpe, Holland’s and MacDonald are rated equally. This simply isn’t the case. I have not seen one draft expert, either on here or elsewhere, that has Tillthorpe as top 3. In fact the general consensus is clearly that Holland’s, JUH and McDonald are rated fairly equally as the top tier. It feels like people forget that we are picking at No. 1 here, and if we take Tillthorpe at 1 we are the only side in the comp who would.

if we are prepared to trade down, then I have a lot less problem taking Tillthorpe, (I still dont think he fits our needs), but he simply is not the best player in this draft, so don’t take him at 1.

When are people on here going to get it's just each individual posters and individual draft eggspurts boards opinion as to who is the best player/s in this draft....in the end it means diddly squat because I daresay none of the head recruiters are or will ever be influenced by either set of eggspurts.

The fact is nobody on here or in the media has any real idea how the actual blokes that pull the trigger draft night are thinking or where they rate individual players.

Next years draft is supposed to be stronger and apparently it’s going to be a bit of a lottery after the first 5-6 picks. Will we get a better player at 9 than 22 or 23? Could we get a top 10 pick next year?
I can see us trading picks 22 or 23 to get into the 2021 draft. We're not moving pick 9 into it.

I don't mind the idea, but I think it's time to cash those chips in this year.
Yep...

I think pick 1 is used on either thilthorpe or Mcdonald which helps shore up the future of our forward line..

Definately use Pick 9 on the best available mid at that pick

And then we try and trade picks 22 and 23 into 2021 for a first.. hopefully a collingwood type team bites...

Picks 40 and onwards used on NGA lads.. not really interested in Edwards now.

So I Would be happy to simply get

1
9
Borlase
Newchurch
At the draft

With Hately coming in through the PSD

And a rookie (maybe Spicer if he’s there) in the rookie draft..

And thats all for this year, if we can move 22 and 23 into the first round in 2021.

Lots of opinions on this. I think you are going to be disappointed. I reckon we are a long shot to take McDonald. RT hot fav followed by Hollands
Can’t wait to see what we actually do

I think crows will take Hollands. The
Surprised to read that Crows are considering only using 4 picks in the draft this year.

I would have thought 6 would be more likely;
3 live selections + Newchurch, Edwards and Borlase.

For mine, even if we take 5, it screams that one of those academy/FS kids aren't coming in - guessing it's Edwards sadly.

Other alternative is that we are going to trade picks 9, 22 + 23 for a combination of top 7 pick in 2020 and a future 1st rounder for 2021. and then only use those two top ten picks in this years draft, loading up for next season and then take academy/FS kids this year (2-3)

Alot to play out.
That means pick 1, trade up for higher pick. And there will be 2 of Borlase, Edwards and Newchurch selected. There is a possibility they have their eyes of a DFA and they have Hately coming through PSD. That makes 6 new players.

Of course no one knows, but you have to base opinions on some expert knowledge. I’m pretty sure if someone posted here that we would be mad to not select Poulter at pick 1 because he’s an SA midfielder, you would be the first to point out that no one ranks him that high.
im pretty confident that everyone accepts that the club isn’t going to change their views because of any opinions here, but there is nothing wrong with discussing who the experts rate highest and what deficiencies are the most severe on our list.

Why on earth would we consider doing that?
Because we assume next year we’ll get a proper look at the draftees whereas this year there’s a lot more guess work. Even in a normal year there is a good chance pick 9 (or actually more like 10-12) will not be any good. Plus the draft is reported to be stronger than this years. I’d swap 9 for the 2021 first of North, Essendon, Hawthorn or Sydney in a heartbeat, and maybe even chuck in a sweetener.

Fine but anyone trying to say there's a gulf between McDonald and Thilthorpe on what both individual players bring to the table is clueless....They are different players yes but they project as equally good AFL players in their different ways.

For what it's worth I'd still take Elijah Hollands personally because he projects as the most capable of being a real game changer out of all the top end talent.

I’m going Hollands with pick 1. Then attempt to bring Thilthorpe home in 2 years.
Hopefully in two years time we’ll attempting to get Luko or Rankine home though so we wont have currency for thilthorpe..

Thilthorpe or mcdonald this year... with best mid avail at pick 9..

Then best mids available with our first two picks in 2021 (hopefully 1 of those is Horne)

And in 2022 our first goes towards getting Luko or Rankine back home to play for us..

Add this to the young lads we already have starting to show promise and the rebuild looks good.

They're not coming home. Forget it. They both had a chance to do so and shut the door by signing early extensions before we even knocked on it. Gold Coast in a far better position than AFC over the next 5 years. They'll play a massive part in that. Why come home? Our only hope will be when they're both free-agents.

I wouldn't, our list build needs immediate attention, 2 top end talents is the minimum we should be taking this draft.

23 & 40 I'd put on the table to an upgrade into 2021 draft if we're not thinking of taking our NGA's or F/S in the main draft. However don't know that there would be a whole lot of interest from other clubs unless there's somebody they really rate still on this year's board..

Edit : I might add it's very, very likely there's going to be quite a few really good rookie options available this year due to the Covid circumstances
