They'll be available several times through the year according to something I read ,I think it was on the AFL website where players that miss out in the draft can be picked up during next season, thus the club's will have some sort of form line. List spots remaining b being the biggie.
Do you know if they can go immediately onto a rookie list? Lucky we have DMac signed up on the main list.

I'm a tragic 49ers fan in the NFL, and their GM has made a bit of a artform of this. You get a team on the hook for a guy you don't want, but they are willing to trade for. Then (When you’re on the clock) you approach the team directly below in the draft order and tell them your plans and with what team (because they all know who teams are interested in).

And then wait for them to throw you a deal that slides you down 1 spot and you know you still get your player.

Its never a deal that gets you a godfather offer. But it does get you what equates to free money, and you get to select the guy you want at the prior pick.

Very shifty move, and in this draft, I can only see North falling for it for McDonald
hence why we need to be talking a bit more about McDonald at this point

I have to admit, I'm pretty solidly on the Hollands at pick 1 bandwagon now. My gut instinct tells me that there is a potential top 5 player in the competition in Hollands. And as highly as I rate the other 2, I don't have that gut instinct with either of them.

Yep, it's taken a while, but i've finally figured out my preference. With the 1st pick of the 2020 AFL draft, the Adelaide Crows Select... Elijah Hollands!

Just tell Thilthorpe to let it be known he has a strong desire to remain in Adelaide close to his family (during these uncertain times etc...)
Aaaaah - the Bailey Smith option.

Great - however you do have 3 weeks to change your selection & nobody here will judge you one little bit!!!!

Why not?

Good for the goose, good for the gander.

You forgot to mention that Thilthorpe had to play a lot of his games in the ruck for westies this year due to an injuries to their main ruck..

Then you forgot to add that Mcdonald’s team was dominant making it far easier for a forward to ply his trade.

You also forgot to mention that west adelaide were sh*te this year making it far harder for a forward playing in their side.

But i guess adding these points to your comment and stats provided kinda shoots a heap of holes in your arguement..

Knowing all this...

Maybe we should be asking why Mcdonald could only manage to kick 22 goals this season.. more than we should be asking why thilthorpe only kicked 5..
Footnote - McDonalds team snuck into finals , in no small part due to his form as a key forward

Also listened to Kinnear on RTTD. He doubled down the Thilthorpe line too with an assertion that ruck options are rare throughout the AFL, both in the system and outside. He also stated that we are open to trading pick 1. He rates Tanner Bruhn as a top six pick. Kinnear speaks so well as well and you can see why he is in the upper echelon of what he does.

I am a glass half full human, but when I step back, everything I hear tells me we make things too easy for the other clubs as we constantly telegraph our position/strategy. This empties my Crows glass.
How do you figure that ?? We never come out and say much when it comes to our draft targets.

it will be hollands or mcdonald. 0% chance its thilthorpe.

I havent seen any opposition supporters say thilthorpe is a possible no. 1 pick.
Imagine if McDonald was SA, and Thilthorpe WA.
Thilthorpe wouldn't even be considered at 1.

same, definitely like him , he’s not a pick 1 in my eyes

It's the most frustrating thing every year with draft talk.
We and port get linked with whichever SA boy is half decent.
It's lazy.

Hamish has proven over the years he won't just take a SA boy if another kid form interstate is better.

The kid I think goes under the radar is will Phillips.
If he and Hollands played this year, they probably go 1&2.

And at 16 Kaine Baldwin as a pure KPF prospect was a street ahead of both McDonald and Thilthorpe.

Underrating? I've watched him multiple times and no one in their right mind can compare him to Logan as a forward.
Logan is a freak, Thilthorpe is very good.
What is the best game to watch McDonald? The futures game last year he didn't do much at all, TT played really well, but I get McDonald has improved rapidly this year.

So you're saying we think DMac is a better option than a potential draftee who may come on really well once they are back into footy.

Sound list management!
Yes, they thought he was better than the player we would get with our 5th or 6th pick in the draft. Not unreasonable, given what he produced this year (top-10 in the B&F, top-5 on votes per game).

We'll still have 1-2 senior list vacancies anyway, so retaining him isn't going to keep us out of the mid-season drafts anyway.

I’m going Hollands with pick 1. Then attempt to bring Thilthorpe home in 2 years.

I have a feeling Port will be in constant contact with him for two years, if Adelaide doesn't chose him. They will be looking for a replacement 200 cm plus forward (a rare commodity) for Charlie Dixon who will be 32/33 in two years time. Thilthorpe has trained with the Port Adelaide Squad, and you can see the line Port would use - they had a chance to pick you but didn't, we have always wanted you!

Agree with you on Hollands.
