Who cares? It's more-or-less equivalent to pick 33, which was the next offer in the process. If they don't take that, then PSD.
The big takeaway from this is that we are indeed not stupid enough to offer pick 23, which the AFL scum were pushing for, and many of you were having nightmares over. Think about that: we're not that stupid! ;) (Keeps fingers firmly crossed)

Of course we could be that stupid. Hopefully not though

After the sh1tstorm they saw from the crouch fiasco surely they read the tea leaves and knew that giving the crouch pick for a good player but one we could walk to the psd and get for free would have sent the supporter base apoplectic

Hope we don’t trade 2021 Melbourne’s second. That is even more skewed in our favour with the recently announced changes to NGA bids for 2021 - no matching in first round I think it is. Means that pick may only move back one or 2 spots only with any NGA bids. Good work Binuk/Reid!

It's a very good deal. Wasted if we use the Melb 2021/2 on Hately, but let's see...

Would he be worth any more than a 3rd?

I’d suspect that if Gallucci leaves he’ll get snapped up as a DFA... happy to be proven wrong but can’t see us getting anything back for him.

I agree it makes sense for us to pick swap with them if we want 14 (and we should do if the price is right). All I am saying is there will be other teams seeking that pick no doubt and some like Melbourne currently don't have a 1st round pick and may be quite desperate to grab it and could offer up greater points to do so..we just need to be aware of that

Will say it again, no other team has the leverage we do. We’ve got to offer them a deal that gets close enough in points and hope they figure the rest out themselves...

I will be staggered if we do a deal with WB. I think we are too gutless to do it and the VFL would probably block it anyway.

He has to be worth something. I would resign him. Certainly before McKay. New coach and system. Pyke and Campo killed youth development. He's been out for a season injured so deserves a new contract. Maybe 1 year. He certainly looks to have been active in rehab.

GWS might not see any use in Pick 40 this year, what with all their 1st rounders about to land in the Cameron deal.

Interesting to hear it's still on the table though, makes you think any pick swap between us and the Dogs is a no-go?
Think one of the two picks #22 / #23 gets used .....but what with extra ?

Bulldogs could well have 6 and 14 by the end of today, and use 14 on Treloar. Everything is so fluid that it’s impossible to predict.
pick trading will keep going up to the draft so we probably won’t know on that for a while anyway.

I think it's rumoured that Pies will look to pay $100-$150K per year of his contract

At that price he's worth a 2nd round pick at best.

If I was the Dogs I'd take the Pies to the cleaners here.

If I was coughing up Pick 14 then I'd want the Pies to be taking $250K per year on his contract. They really don't have too many options here, it's a pretty toxic situation, and it'll be massive unders for him.

My guess is that Dunkley will be Pick 6 and maybe a 2nd/3rd rounder

I think Gooch gets a new deal, even if only for 1 year, because
1. It's the right thing to do (OK, soft, but there are other reasons too)
2. The way his career has been interrupted by injury + no chance to show he's got the message that Godden delivered etc, he still has potential upside even if it's a risk.
3. As a trade, we get almost nothing for him (and as a DFA precisely nothing). Even unproven / uncertain, he's worth more to us than anyone else would pay (and fair enough).
4. We don't need his list spot, there are other options.

If we had drafted Gooch with pick 60, he would have been gone already. he has shown nothing to say he looks anywhere close to the level really and combined with the injuries just doesn’t stack up. It feels like a bloody minded refusal to accept that another high pick was wasted, that is keeping him at this stage.

as for list spots, well I would be taking someone like Phoenix Spicer in his spot, at least then there is a chance of seeing an AFL standard player.

I highly disagree. Gooch has shown signs he could be a good to very good player. Has done some high quality plays and had a couple of games where he has done a lot with the ball. v Melbourne and Brisbane in 2019 as examples.

The issue with him has always been timing. Existing in a period where Adelaide barely acknowledged anyone under the age of 24 and then when having a pretty clear run at it (providing he'd work harder), does his achilles. Sport can be a bitch at times.

That said, I would be curious to see how he'd go post achilles. Long injury layoffs can make or break a footballer.

Hell Zak butters was Vic Metro and he's from Darley which is next door to Bacchus Marsh... :)
yep.. few streets away from me ;-)

Fair enough, I always felt he had been given more opportunities than he deserved because he was drafted 1st round. Like McHenry he just can’t find space And struggles to impact games. Gotta say I feel the same way about Jones at the moment. He got a lot of games that players like Worrell or O’Connor didn’t because we took him so high. I mean if Scholl had come in and had 3 or 4 disposal games, he would have been gone.

Jones is probably a very good comparison to Gooch. They do a lot of good with the ball when they get it, and there is definitely a high end player locked somewhere in them. It's just getting it in a large quantity is the problem. Mind you, that's been a problem for a lot of people stuck in the wasteland of our half forward line, though at least Jones has had opportunities to make a midfield spot his own.

It's always going to be the case though. A 1st round pick is always going to get more opportunities and leeway than a 3rd round pick will get. The first round pick has been judged as having a lot more talent, and opportunity will always be more abundant to those judged at a higher talent level, even if the performances aren't there currently. The challenge for a later pick is to say through their performances "**** you, I'm worth it and you need to invest time into me if you want to be successful long term, even if I go through a rough patch". Something Sholl earned in 2020. Or to fill a niche and be a cheap role player.
