I think he still has moments. It appears he loses concentration from time to time.Old news. He wasn't last season.
Have we learnt nothing from that crazy science experiment called Pittard?
There’s no need to talk down Bonner. The fact of the matter is we have amazing depth in defence. Last year we had one of the best defence’s in the league. Two were in the All Australian squad. Outside our Prelim final defenders we have:
Aliir
Jones
Bergman
Garner
Bonner
Frederick
All of the above would get games at almost any other club (remember Frederick’s brother- not as good as our boy- got games at Freeo last year) and the majority would be regulars at most other AFL clubs.
Then there’s Rozee and Drew who played a lot off half back before being drafted and Jase Burgoyne who could slot in across half back in 2022.
So it’s no disgrace to Bonner to struggle to get a game at Port.
My only question is, why are we trying to convert Bergman into a defender when he was drafted as a mid/forward? The above shows we do not need another defender.
Yep, I'm not trying to talk Frederick down but he's very much a developing type a full season in the SANFL should help & give us more of an idea of his future.Frederick is the only medium/small defender I'd take Bonner over. As Garners buddy I'm obliged to say Garner > Bonner.
We really should've dealt him last year as part of the Fantasia trade. Port always hold onto players a year too long.
Poor Bonner would get ****ed up...He and Lachie Jones - behind the bike sheds, let them sort it out like men.
Actually, the fact that he's not injured and is training well should be exciting. He's also day and a genuine small forward. Adds a bit more X factor to the forward line. Factor in the improvements of Marshall and Georgiadis then we have a lot to look forward toThis is a bit of the club using a new recruit for good news stories (and to get this confidence up after it was shot), surely.
Yeah, I reckon he's closer than you think though. His issue is he has zero chance of getting a game without the worst injury run of all time. At a lesser team, I reckon he'd get an AFL crack this year.Yep, I'm not trying to talk Frederick down but he's very much a developing type a full season in the SANFL should help & give us more of an idea of his future.
