if that article is right, Pickett is currently on the same as the jobkeeper payment

Looks like, and the clubs could legit apply for it - they could comfortably show their revenue has dropped by the threshold amounts. Good way to clear up some cap space.

Really don't want to get started into political ideology, but a union that doesn't look after its most vulnerable members is a truly worthless organisation.

Surprised but not surprised. I really thought that the player payment cuts would be incremental to protect the rookies/base salary guys, but obviously not.

Should definitely be more progressive. Rookies shouldn't have pay cut below rookie minimum at all.

Don't like the line about Richmond finding some opportunities for him, and making sure they are "bona fide". Don't players have to find their own endorsements? Balme says that they need to find him some deals outside the cap.

He’s played 1 game.

"Last night a Go Fund Me page was set up to support the star with a target to raise $50,000."

Dustin Martin should pay $50k in tax each month. You'd think they would have sorted this out in-house already before asking the average punter

Yeah I think it's far more brazen than what we've done with our memberships.

The $3,000 a month and the poor contract aside...

Does this mean as a supporter we can setup a Go Fund Me page to encourage a Brad Crouch or someone to stay? What about a Go Fund Me page to attract some free agents?

If we had done this we'd have already lost picks for salary cap cheating or something.

Our problem is that we would get Nigel Smart to set it up meaning it should be declared, then Rob Chapman would welcome him back after his 3m suspension and 3 years of draft sanctions

Definitely open to corruption, if only we had a go fund me page that Balfour's could've made a kind gesture into. Instead we signed a napkin.

And yet the **** ing AFL will turn a blind eye to that, just as they have to the 'extras' Martin gets directly by being associated with Richmond. Martin himself said he accepted less to play for Richmond because he would make up the deficit in other ways. We're supposed to compete with that shit...in tin pot Adelaide.

Pickett should create a company called Pickett Inc and sell the rights to any further photos, stories, etc over to his new company. Then the company can on-sell those rights to Richmond for $200k and that would be outside the cap

Not that anyone would do that

Just as long as they delete the email.

Sad situation for him, but A) He can blame his own union for it and b) He's still much better off than thousands of other people in the country

It probably explains how Richmond can have so many high profile players yet remains within the cap. I suppose most of Dangers money comes from outside the cap. Corruption easy in Victoria.

And it will only get worse as $$$ are trimmed from the AFL generally. Less $$$ to go around.

Will become even more attractive, almost necessary for all but the stars, to get to Melbourne for commercial or media opportunity

Articles like this really annoy me. No talk about how we were playing at our oppositions home ground. No talk about how their captain should have been banned the week before. No talk about the bias that has been shown to the Tigers ever since. God, even Gold Coadt would make the finals if they got 7 straight games at home and could get extra deals for their players outside of the salary cap. Just over the AFL - we have no frigging chance of winning it and basically exist to prop up their league and be mocked
