Play Nice 2020 Pre-Season Training

McCarthy should of been rookied at least, you can see why Neale could be persuaded. Guys like Harley, Sherro,
Blakely, and the targeting of Hogan would have me asking questions.
Then Cox and Ryan chugging beers, something had to give.
Hogan drinking before last pre-season, they won't getaway from the press over here.

Whole different debate. I agree with your points but what’s it got to do with Cam? Correct me if I’m wrong but he hasn’t had any slip ups has he?

Benny Cousins, Kerr, etc, did nothing wrong either 😉
Depends which club you play for, apparently Dope is now a wonder drug, and DD is swept under the carpet.
At Freo you won't get any leeway. We have to be better.
I will just pipe down on McCarthy.

I don't have an issue if a footy player enjoys a dart and/or their body look like a piece of string cheese. As long as they can hit their KPI's and play good footy, then no problem.

Sure, Cam hasn't played as well as we'd hoped but I also don't think you can put that all on him. I think the previous coach had a big role in that, too.

Contract year, I reckon he'll have a break out surrounded by the likes of Hogan, Tabs and Lobb (like round 1 this year).

Players will want to be on ball this year.

Looking at potential retirements this year we have Mundy and he could go on again.

The players who’s contracts are up this year or even next better train well.

Some players will be traded or cut this year.

If your contract hasn’t been extended by mid season it brown trousers time.

All players have motivation to train hard this year.

Some of you want to draft skill first players, which is fine.. but then don't whinge about it when you end up with 10 Dardy's on your list - All the skill in the world but no ethic to put the effort in.

It's why clubs target personalities and athlete's much to your chagrin. Clearly both would be ideal but it's almost as if some with the pure natural talent (which clearly Cam has) feel they don't need to put in as much effort and possibly even rate themselves a cut above the rest.

IMHO, of course.

For the training watchers yesterday: I saw some good pics of young Sturt on the lead yesterday at full stretch, taking marks. Anyone able to give me an E-shed-esque run down on his movement, his aerial craft and his sublime kicking skills to kick off this boring Tuesday?

Cam is one of the most talented players on our list, his highlights package for the past season is one of the best i've seen!
Would love to see a few games in a row where the talls set up was Hogan, Lobb and Cam. Think they all bring really different and valuable qualities to the 22:

- Lobb with his height and contested marking
- Hogan with his power, pack smashing and goal nous
- Cam with his leading and elite kicking skills

i have faith in him to pull through, he seems a player to thrive on confidence and i reckon Longy will be better for him than Ross in this way.
Hopefully he can bring some consistency and become the third tall we need :)

Yeah I agree with this, as one of the people that derides the draft by stopwatch I wish the AFL had won their failed battle against sport science and we could actually watch footballers again, not ****ing man robots. Who in their right mind would rather watch Stefan Giro than Benny Vigona?
If guys that can actually football like Cam are in the WAFL, then bring it on. With the need to have a dockers membership now gone because of the new stadium I find myself enjoying more Souths games these days anyway. The more talent in the WAFL the better and the AFL can have the time trial and beep test champions.

Now that we have Acres, my preferred is either Fyfe, Mundy and Acres, all rotating through.

Add into that a fast tracking of Sturt. I can only justify McCarthy based on production.

With Hogan, Lobb and Taberner when all available we risk being too tall.

Give McCarthy a chance in the team this year playing the whole season as 3rd tall under Longmuir he kicks 30+ goals no problem. He kicked 19 in only 12.
But if you take out the 5 against North in our round 1 demolition and the 4 against Carlton, then he is running at 1 goal per game average.

I want more from someone with his potential.

And so my above post isn't misinterpreted, from someone based in Sydney, thank you to all the posters who update the training reports. Greatly appreciate the info!

Sure, he could deliver more on his potential. But it isn't a one way street. Surround him with better coaching, skills, game plan and injury list, and the side gets better and forwards have more opportunities. He might swim instead of sink. I wouldn't write him off just yet. Lobb, Hogan and McCarthy is by far the best and most versatile tall forward setup in my opinion.

Exact same can be said for the Freo Bigfooty favourite Tabs. Take out the games where he bullied a few subpar defenders and it's a desert.

Here's a thought... Maybe we could start a "Best 22" type thread where we could have all these arguments about who should or shouldn't be playing rather than clogging the training thread?
You're being a bit quick aren't you? Surely this has to degenerate into a Ross Lyon debate before its time draw stumps and get back to training reports

First time I've heard Phil Davis described as a subpar defender

People seem to forget that Hogan only went at like a goal a game this year. Let's give McCarthy another chance in a new system before we make our final judgement.

I see it as Lobb and Tabs are the talls, Hogan is the 3rd tall and Cam is emergency only. He has to compete with Hogan for the 3rd tall position. Cam will be relying on injuries to get game time. Luckily for him injuries are almost a guarantee to those 3.

Ahhhh, to go back to 2013 and tell our supporters we'll end up playing Jesse Hogan as a third tall...
