Thanks mate - no, Goodes is a mid in my mind.
Thats actually quite amazing, 30 years. I'd love the focus to shift but with how the game is played and mids doing offensive and defensive work now I dont think it will.
Good to see Sharman get some recognition in the last though.
I reckon coaches votes should determine it, they have more of an idea anyway. Still most of these awards are dominated by midfielders so it's hard to see how they even it out.

When was the last time a StKilda non-midfielder got a Brownlow vote within 6 months of being drafted, in their 4th game?
Mate im too lazy to look up the last non midfielder, im definitely too lazy to go to that level of detail lol.
Plugger probably?
Never happened, I posted before that Sharman is the least experienced in terms of games played to poll a vote for our club.

Its interesting that from an internal perspective Dunstan didnt rate in our top 10 for the year yet outside our club he polls second highest.
Not that I think for one moment potential new clubs will factor in brownlow votes but a savvy manager may use it to push the price up?
Only played 12 games- not sure how many votes he got though.

How are you measuring experience? He got votes in his 4th game.

Dunstan polled 2 votes in his 3rd game - a loss against West Coast in Perth which is impressive for a 3rd gamer to get gets in a loss.

All umpires notice is quantity of midfielders winning the ball not quality.

Ball butchers like Dunstan and Ben Keays in the votes, can’t believe people want to keep Dunstan based upon Brownlow votes.

Based on this theory we should get rid of Sinclair as he he didn’t poll.

Why do you have to delist any good players?

Going off some comments here, we should keep Dunstan and get rid of Crouch and Jones and Sinclair.
Brownlow votes are really nothing to compare

I was going to cut off my finger but now I realise my left hand has been doing **** all for ages....get me the knife.

Not saying he should not be on the list , saying that using Brownlow votes as a reason is flawed.

For what it’s worth I have no problem if he was offered a contract but he is what he is a ball accumulator with poor foot skills.

Personally I see more of an upside in Bytel and Byrnes.

It’s sad but I remember listening to Razor Ray talk about how the umps come up with votes and it’s no where near as impartial as we’d like. He mentioned that before the game they look at stats in weeks prior and discuss makes who may get the votes. It’s no wonder guys like Bont poll when they shouldn’t

I dont like whats happening at all, midfielders just getting vote after vote. If Oliver is standing next to you all day , of course he is going to stay in your memory at the end of the game. I heard on radio that umps do not get a look at the gameday stats until after they have voted, if at all.

Errol Gulden polled two votes in his first game this year.
Chad Warner got a vote in his forth game.
Matt Rowell had 9 votes in his first four games last year.

It's not uncommon.

I did originally say "non midfielder " but George got me all hyped up.

David King was talking about how the top players do the bulk of the work, Bont is responsible for a ridiculous amount of their kicks inside 50. Those champion guys make so much of the play it's hard to ignore them. Macrae and and Steele are big accumulators but there is something about the way Bont and Trac play that makes them look more dominant. Same with Danger, they just stand out so much more than others around them.

Even Oliver, he does those crazy horizontal handballs as he's just touched the ball and so has a lot of eye catching moments. Olly Wines more bulls the contested stuff and can look really dominant. It's hard for those quiet presence types to get noticed at the best of times but having a Bont or Trac that gets others attention as well seems to focus the play around them.

i didn't know that. Interesting stat. Where do you check these. I'd love to find the number one and two on that list to see if I can get some ammunition for trolling other sides for being umpires pets
Haven't checked this year's stats but remember reading a while back that Selwood had received the most frees ever in AFL history. Hardly a surprise.
