Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

Butler & Motlop, 2 small forwards for our other 2 picks in 20s.
Still think if we had more picks to pick up guys like Taylor, Howes, Knevitt, Bazzo better value than just Ward.
Anyway as the heading suggests draft bats deep.
I think its more of a big board than mock draft, but I would hope we don't get more than one small forward. Give Brocky time this year, let the other simmer in the VFL and grab another midfielder for our inevitable injury stretch. I'm warming to Howes though, especially if we lose one of Gunner/Breust. Ward, Taylor (Johnson or Roberts if they slip) and a JvR, Williams, Bazzo or Howes that can be forwards but provide some utility.

Andrew is perfect for Gold Coast - paired with Chol would sort their rucks for a long time
Chol as a ruckman is not a solution in my mind. And I am not sure GC have 4-5 years to wait for Andrew to become the star he may become. I am also not sure they have the player development to bring it out of him. Think he'd be a great option in tandem with Reeves. Andrew the Mobile follower, Reeves the Big body that's spend the bulk of time in ruck. I think GC would go for Hobbs or Gibcus, but could be wrong.

I want Ward. I'd say stiff sh*t, and call his name.

We need him more than they do.
Agree. If ward is there. Take him. Hobbs, I would pick up the phone! Lots of good contested mids in the second round (Knevitt and MacDonald)

Good mail that one of the key recruiters at a club in the top 5 of the draft sees the mids in this order.

Daicos
JHF
Finn
Ward
Hobbs
Rachele
Erasmus
Sonsie

Then you’ve got to account for where Andrew, Amiss, Gibcus might fall in amongst those picks.
Circling back to this from last night, I’m quite ok with 1 of Ward, Hobbs, Rachele or Erasmus.

2 of them would be better of course.

The good value in all three is that we can play them forward while they develop. Ward is a better midfielder than all three, and it seems that is pretty consensus now with the exception of maybe Hobbs, but Hobbs is a great mark and a bull on fire that we can throw at half-forward, Erasmus is obviously an ariel threat with silky and explosive movement to get himself in good positions (he is a natural forward) and Rachele may as well be Toby Green but less punchable. While I greatly prefer Ward for his midfield skills, the utility when these guys present makes them great consolation prizes.
