Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

Sorry but who does knightmare talk to? My understanding from his own posts is that he is out on his own and doesn't speak to recruiters or use any inside Intel to form his opinion. Basically the opposite of twomey. Twomey was the first one in the media to report on Darcy's rise into first round and then top 3 because that was all recruiters. All the other draft watchers were late to that party. For anything noise beyond opinions and personal evaluations (which are great reading sometimes) then twomey is the only one to go to.

Ps. Avery barely a chance to be drafted. Is a 19yo and wasn't picked up last year or MSD from memory.

Alleer is a nice prospect but nowhere near top 10.

Uwland is a GCA player who hasn't been mentioned in the top 40 of any draft watcher aside from KM and hasn't been discussed by twomey on his podcast which is a good sign he isn't rated.
You’re right on Chris. He is opposed to seeking the opinions of others. He has his views and sticks to them until the bitter end. He has a counter view on football which is interesting to read but I wouldn’t put much weight to his opinions, there are quite a few bigfooty posters that I’d go to before KM.. He gives up a lot of his time to give his opinions so I respect that of him..
Darcy is an interesting one. Not that highly rated then Gerard Healy said this guys got top end potential, all of a sudden everyone has him a top 3 consensus, after hardly playing a game following the comment. BF draft orders are mainly copy and paste with a bit of tweaking. Darcy has some attributes but I wouldn’t be placing him that high.

Personally wouldn’t match a bid for Darcy ‘Top 3’ but Dogs are committed.

How funny if Roos,GWS or Suns bid on Darcy and Dogs let him go !?!?!?
Draft would be even greater for Hawks

Can we please NOT pick up Blake Howes.

Nothing against him at all but can you imagine the commentators with him and Dan Howe in the same side.

They already have issues with Shiels being called Shiel and Shields.

🤦‍♂️
good value though if goes at around pick 29, Cal has him there:
Blake Howes 3rd forward, wingman, 190 cm, athletic runner, Vic
I thought that is type of player we need, less costly than Amiss.

I want
Ward (Class)
Chesser or Sonsie (X Factor)
Rhett Bazzo or Van Rooyan (Key Back)

Maybe get a second first somehow and get Sinn

Midfield Set

I was just reading Cal Sep Top 30 from 30 down and just wondering how could we get more picks in the 18 - 35 range.
There are only really 2 options, trading out some of our fringe players for picks in that range or downgrading our first pick for multiple picks later.
Names that are there:
30 Rhett Bazzo: key defender, 195 cm, WA
29 Blake Howes 3rd forward, wingman, 190 cm, athletic runner, Vic
28 Zac Taylor: small midfielder, kicking stands out, rarely misses a target, good decision maker, Vic
20 Chesser: midfielder / defender, Vic
18 Josh Goater: midfielder 190 cm, athletic, agile, quick, Vic

With our pick 21 & 24 we could pick up 2 of those players above, if someone offered 2-3 picks for our first to pick another 2-3 players above, wouldn't that be better than just one player like Ward. For example wouldn't Goater/Taylor combination be an upgrade on just Ward. If we could get something for our fringe players that we no longer want, that could also work. Brisbane has 15 & 18, even Sinn comes into contention. Gold cost 19 & 22 again. Richmond's 16,26,28.

that's a form guide, not a phantom draft

I personally would rate this move highly. Picking a Hobbs (while he seems a fantastic prospect), seems counter-intuitive while we have so many midfielders of the same type.

Building from the back, with DGB and Gibcus in KPP surrounded by Sic, Dimma, CJ and Scrim is a decent position to be in.

That said, this entire strategy is based on us keeping JOM and Titch.

Seriously, why would the Dogs baulk at acquiring a top 5 talent when they'll be able to use a bunch of 2nd and 3rd round picks to pay for him after the 20% discount.

When Andrew puts on muscle - he’s going to be an absolute weapon

From an athletic and footballing standpoint, he looks like he's got a dose of the Franklin's at times. Super tall, super fast twitch/fast, good hands and seems to understand the game.

Granted Buddy was better by far as a forward by the time his draft rolled around, and was physically stronger.

The questions is can Andrew put on size.

If he can you'd argue he'd already be a handy AFL prospect. Even if he were to only develop to the extent any regular player needs to in order to get a regular game, there's enough on show in the talent tank already to make that development a formidable proposition.

I saw exactly the same thing. His movement is Franklin like, the way he hits the ball on and his follow up work. Kicking isn't at the level of Buddy but I saw Nic Nat / Lance upside in his game. He's my second choice behind Callaghan.

Madness. We’re selecting kids that’ll be part of our midfield for the next 10 years, not for where they will fit in the pecking order over the next three years.

We need as many topline Midfielders as we can get.

Surely we don't take Gibcus?!

If we did and he turned out to be a gun, having our 2 KPD secured over 2 drafts would be an amazing outcome. I wont complain if we take a tall I will back our recruiters in.

Having rewatched the Mac Andrew highlights he looks special...but having never seen him play live or watched a full game he has played in it is impossible to determine his level of output across 4 quarters. Havent had a chance to look at his possession levels - could be another NicNat or more in the Luke Jackson mould...

Sure, we absolutely do. But we also need talent that can develop (and play) together as a team in their dominant position over the next period.

In an inside midfield unit that was dominated (in terms of time spent in midfield) this year by JOM, Shiels, Titch and Howe - we've got our best young mid in Worpel barely spending enough time there.

Add Hobbs to the mix and we're creating a logjam.

Drafting Hobbs only makes sense IMO if we trade one of JOM, Howe or Titch.
