Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

Sure, we absolutely do. But we also need talent that can develop (and play) together as a team in their dominant position over the next period.

In an inside midfield unit that was dominated (in terms of time spent in midfield) this year by JOM, Shiels, Titch and Howe - we've got our best young mid in Worpel barely spending enough time there.

Add Hobbs to the mix and we're creating a logjam.

Drafting Hobbs only makes sense IMO if we trade one of JOM, Howe or Titch.
If we rate Hobbs as the best talent, we draft him. We shouldn’t be drafting for next year but 3-5 years in the future, minimum.

Even with all those guys we should be giving Worps, Hobbs and any other draftees plenty of opportunity in the middle. But this is a separate argument.

I want
Ward (Class)
Chesser or Sonsie (X Factor)
Rhett Bazzo or Van Rooyan (Key Back)

Maybe get a second first somehow and get Sinn

Midfield Set
I wonder how many of good players on our radar will last till picks in the 30s. Third possible option to get more talent in, especially if we have done our homework is to give up one of our picks in the 20s for more picks in 30s. Not sure whether Geelong would be willing to part with their picks in their 30s.
Just curious where players like Knevitt who is a big bodied midfielder, Clarke small midfielder / forward will finish.

How many of you would be interested in a mock draft after we get some combine results? Everyone takes a team, decides their picks, and all that. I'm not sure if something like that has been done before on this board, but I'd be happy to set it up and pick for any teams left unclaimed. Not sure how well it works on a club board though.

Side note: I like Howes as a prospect if we end up with Sydneys 2nd for Howe. Just seems so poetic, and the guy can run all day and clunk the occasional pack mark. Stick him under Breust and mentor him up, could be special.

One of the challenge will be keeping track of Father and Son / NGA bids and how it will impact / correctly update later picks.

And trading during draft.

What's the deal with Jesse Motlop? He's part of Freo's Academy but they can't match a bid until after pick 40. He's also the son of Daniel Motlop who played 150+ games with Port. Did he snub Port as a father son?
Wrong Motlop brother I think.

South Fremantle/Western Australia

A smart small forward who can create something from nothing, Motlop has had good exposure this season playing with South Fremantle's league and reserves sides. The son of former Kangaroo and Power forward Daniel can hit the scoreboard, as seen with his two-goal debut in the WAFL earlier in the year. Motlop is a part of the Fremantle Next Generation Academy but the Dockers are only free to match a bid for him after pick 40 as he is a metropolitan Indigenous player.

I can handle the bids system, I've done it before in other mock drafts. Trading I might have to outright ban since I've always found it leads to bad trades and unrealistic scenarios unless of course the trade has been confirmed.

Daniel only played 83 games for Port

He played 43 with the Roos and 83 with port so only just misses being a father-son.

There is no way Sinn goes top 10 with some luck he or Sonsie might slip to our 2nd.

Horne, Callaghan Hobbs Ward Gibcus Andrew Erasmus Rachele Amiss

Be funny if we took him at 24 and he ended up being the next Rioli - The Port Norf tears would be salty

If Hobbs is available still at our pick it would be hard to turn down.

Think i want Rachele over Erasmus now but both my top two preferences.

Love Mac as well and can't wait to watch him over the next few years but i think it is a risk i want another club to take.

It really could be one of those situations that turns out to be a blessing to not have that pick. The sample size on him playing at a high level isn’t big enough to fill you with real confidence.
I've been told by mate who's watched him a fair bit (his son plays for Sandy) that he burns the ball a fair bit going into the i50. Early in the piece I really wanted us to get him but now that he's likely out of reach I'm hoping my mate is right. My mate has been taking pi55 out of me because ever since I inquired about him he shot from mid first round to top 5.

30Tom Brown

So it looks like Tom Brown not rated as a player either.

Horne still numero uno.

Ward, right smack with our pick.
Butler & Motlop, 2 small forwards for our other 2 picks in 20s.
Still think if we had more picks to pick up guys like Taylor, Howes, Knevitt, Bazzo better value than just Ward.
Anyway as the heading suggests draft bats deep.
