capacity is as listed on austadiums.
According to Austadiums The last time the Gabba had over 39,000 was 15 years ago!

The highest AFL crowd is 37,478 for a 2019 Finals game between the Brisbane Lions and Richmond. While the stadium's capacity is officially 41,974, it has been reduced due to a temporary deck area behind the goals - for AFL games the current capacity is approximately 36,000.

Brisbane is the only city to see growth year over year. And you wonder why AFL are investing heavily into the state

We will be able to tell this weekend with 75% capacity and Carlton and Collingwood playing at the G if the covid ticketing arrangements are having any effect on crowds.
The average MCG Coll v Carlton crowd since 1997 has been about 65,500

I reckon the increase in crowd size will be more beneficial to the Hawthorn-Richmond game than the Carlton-Collingwood one.

Hardly any Hawks fans got to go to see what turned out to be an amazing win in Round 1, and they're up against the back to back premier who also had many fans locked out of Round 1. Under the previous arrangements we also had the prospect of the amount of Richmond fans being severely limited, but now they should have no problems. This would normally be a recipe for a big crowd, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

In normal years an early season Carlton-Collingwood game with neither team firing would sit around the high 60s-low 70s so we'll see how it pans out this time.

My guess is that at this stage of the pandemic, the form of the competing clubs is going to be an even larger factor than usual for the crowd numbers. Just becomes that much harder to persuade people to show up.

Agree with this.

For struggling teams their attendances will drop off faster and to lower levels than usual due to COVID. Why would the more casual going supporters make a real effort to book tickets and ore plan to watch their team get flogged?

The first couple of rounds will be ok with the new season and novelty factor, once reality kicks in and teams begin to fall away, their crowds will fall right off.

Many fans like to decide on match day if they will go to the footy and with whom based on weather and other factors like family movements and competing interests. Marvel Stadium tenants have become more accustomed to pre planning and booking early by necessity due to capacity constraints. This is a key reason why attendances for matches at Marvel are lower than the MCG (like for like).

The crowd at the MCG on Saturday and Marvel on Sunday were noteworthy. It was comfortably Norths lowest home crowd ever against the Power. What would the North V Power match have drawn if played in 6 weeks time with the Roos possibly only having won a single game.

Already happening with North -13,000 at Marvel is a disgrace for an AFL team!
I wonder how low the North crowds will go if they are winless at the half way mark as some are suggesting!

What about how low Essendon crowds will be too. Essendon have a challenging draw and their clash with Fremantle in about 6 weeks time looks like being < 20,000.

I reckon it will get low 60Ks

I suspect it would have got 80K in a non pandemic environment but perhaps we can expect 20% less across the board at least until there is wide spread rollout of the vaccine

I seriously doubt that.
North’s criwd was down 20% on standard North V Port home crowds, further worsened by round 1 status.

Time will tell I guess, there will be games I reckon I may give a miss to if Essendon’s season become a write off quickly... Mucking around every week with ticketing Apps is something I won’t be buggered with if I’m thinking of going to watch a 8-10 goal loss. And I haven’t missed a home game for 7 years (except 2020).
