Trade Radio was definitely the biggest loser when Lachie Neale decided to announce staying at Brisbane.

I know a lot of people don't like him, but I don't mind Adam Cooney. So many of the other hosts seem to take it ultra seriously. As someone who listens to it at work, he is at least reasonably entertaining compared to the likes of Rendell. He seems to understand how one should approach this scenario.

Listened for two minutes this morning. Caller rings up asking about Nathan Kreuger trade, Dal Santo gives a reasonable answer and then asks Goddard his thoughts. Goddard says he can't comment because he doesn't know anything and shrugs and laughs at the producer. Gee, BJ, maybe do some research if you're going to be on Trade Radio. Felt bad for Dal basically one-out with the nuffie callers.

Also, every year it shits me how all the hosts say the full name of clubs all the time, presumably to pad for time. "Ladhams may want out of the Port Adelaide Football Club", "They'd love to get another ruckman at the Western Bulldogs Football Club."

BJ and Dal have both experienced free agency and trades before themselves during their playing careers and can speak to the internal machinations and how it works from a player's perspective.

They really need a proper journo on the two morning shifts though (the other being Cornes/Lloyd), who actually have contacts, curate rumours, and answer the silly questions about likely to go here, likely to cost that pick, etc. Asking a specialist to do the job of a different type of specialist otherwise.

It's sort of strange actually that we have ex-players holding the fort for the first 5 hours and then all the journos are on the afternoon shifts...

The problem is as others have said, this is looking to be a reasonably quiet trade period. Unless there is a bomb shell that drops out of nowhere, its going to be a big eh. Cerra will probably go for pick 6 and something else, Clarke will probably go for something in the mid 20's, thats it. Theres a few frige players here and there but that is hardly going to generate a heap of discussion.

I would ove a last minute bomb shell. It looked like Neale was going to be that. Something like Fyfe or Danger or something. Just to get things going.

Eddie started that little verbal tic a long time ago. Try to make them sound like venerated institutions.

Also if you use the full name every time, it stretches the segment by a few seconds.

I don't mind the breakfast show on the way into work. Even though it was all discussed days before it seems to be new content for the day. I think Lloyd and Cornes are the two best media performers which helps the show even if I don't agree with them

I feel Rendell has completely fallen off a cliff in terms of his knowledge. He has said lots of things that are not opinion, just factually wrong. I used to like him.

I don't particularly like SOS but he adds good insight.

Edmund and Luke play their roles well.

I don't get what Cooney adds. He has no knowledge and I don't find funny. If I wanted to listen to someone playing the larrakin / sidekick Id have it on Triple M. To me it's not the right fit.

Rendell has been out of the system for too long I think. A couple of years ago he was good, last year, less good. Now apparently even less good (I haven't been listening to it but the worst takes on the trade radio twitter account seem to be attributable to Rendell).

Covid might be playing a part too, I think he was involved with the U18s a bit after he left Collingwood? But there's been stuff all U18s in Vic the last couple of years which would maybe mean he's out of the loop?

Have been listening to a few podcasts of Trade Radio and I'm not sure what's been funnier:

  • Rendell yesterday declaring Darcy Moore will be playing ruck/forward next year
  • Goddard big noting himself in the Josh Battle discussion
  • Adam Cooney declaring that Collingwood must trade out one of Darcy Moore or Jordan De Goey this year because they are both out of contract next year.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, Rendell knows his stuff. Darcy Moore could totally win the Brownlow if he played in the ruck. He would be better then Gawn and Grundy put together. Collingwood just don't do it because it would make Grundy feel bad.

The context re Moore and Darcy was can you afford to have 3 players on around $1m per season? Ie De Goey, Moore and of course good ol Grundy.

No. At least not for a rebuilding team. 1 does need to go and it'll be De Goey I think. Moore is too important to be traded and Grundy has too many years on his contract for another team to go for him.
