The context re Moore and Darcy was can you afford to have 3 players on around $1m per season? Ie De Goey, Moore and of course good ol Grundy.
I get the context but aside from the panic in Cooney‘s voice there are a couple flaws in the argument.

1. If we landed a first round pick this year guaranteed it winds up getting used on Daicos who were getting anyway. So unless someone comes with a Godfather offer like 2 top ten picks this year next year + 1st rounder or pick 1 this year plus 1st rounder next year there’s no real advantage to trading them this year.

2. They’re restricted free agents I believe so we could match and force a trade for the, next year.

3. If we finish bottom 2 again next year which many are predicting and Moore and/or De Goey leave under free agency for their $1mil/year deal then we’re most likely getting first round picks back in compensation meaning we could have 2 or 3 of the top 4 selections in next years draft.

4. There is also the possibility both stay for the $ we can afford to pay them. Given that there isn’t a real advantage to moving them on this year why wouldn’t we back the culture and system we’re building under our new coach to entice them to stay?

The other club would easily be able to do an offer that we have no way of matching. Whether it be front loading or length of year. Very rarely does a team match.

I would not be trading Moore or De Goey (unless they wanted to leave) but it’s good banter.

Lloydy just called out the trade whisperer
**** I don’t get it, just about everyone acknowledges that page is some random bs shit slinger. Everyone seems to down talk him.

Yet so many follow him and spread his dribble… Why? Why won’t people just let that page die

Kane mentioned that the Herald Sun had posted a story about would clubs offer Jackson a 1 million per year over 8 years contract next year to drag him out... I thought he was talking shit again but nope they actually did...

Why am i listening to this dribble when i can get funnier content on twitter

Lloyd has ****ed up. The last thing you should do is give this page (aka Tony Sheahan) exposure.

From accidentally stumbling on his twitter page again last week, the attention seeking Whisp is sponsored by Continental Tyres, so is AFL Trade Radio.
In my eyes, this formalises the linkage between the two... unless they need 15,702.4 re-tweets to confirm it :poo:

I tuned in for the first time to listen to Dal and Goddard read through 3 obvious troll texts and just shuddered at the thought of 12 hours a day of this ‘content’

And now they made it longer…
I’ve tuned in every year since it started with a pleasant sense of anticipation and every time regretted it. Why do I keep doing this? It’s the same with the stupid AFL draft night(s) and the Brownlow red carpet. It’s terrible. I know it is terrible. But every year I do this like I’m some kind of weird amnesiac.

It's our version of big brother and the kardashians.
Unless you also watch those type of programs, in which case, you're a lost cause

Make up your own. They're desperate for content.

Yeah the last two years I made the decision not to listen till trade week actually starts, my life has improved dramatically

It is like me with trade threads. They are akin to a seedy crack den, I know it is not good for me, but I keep coming back for some reason, in spite of a diminishing high every time.

I haven’t heard of half the blokes talked about in trades this season but I’m still doom-scrolling

Definitely the way to go imo. Even once it starts, skip the first 5 hours and the last 2. If they were expecting news they would have a journalist on air ready to break it...

Even after that point you can just subscribe to alerts from AFL_House on Twitter if you want actual news, and skip the 13 hours a day of argy-bargy, bullshit and speculation.

Hey hey hey, I need to reduce my work efficiency somehow and being on BF 4 hours a day only does so much

Can someone please explain to me why they have this crap on for 12-13 hours a day a week before Trade Period actually starts - and they don't have anything to talk about for 11-12 of those 12-13 hours over the first 12 of 13 days either of the actual trade period...

It's insane to me to think that there's literally over 200 hours of this crap being aired, yet only 3 hours max. of that time holds any valuable info. Who the hell signs off on this?

Why not just start trade radio, ya know, when trade period starts???

EDIT: Reading all those different advertisers posted by Lore before -

Trying to keep the audience engaged between end-of-season and start-of-trade-period. AFLW was supposed to start almost directly after trade period as well, before the AFL Draft, but covid screwed it up.

Reckon it's more to do with that plethora of advertisers that you posted earlier, if I'm being honest (see edited above post).

Years ago, people survived without AFL content for months on end...now we have to have something new - real or imagined - every waking second of every day, or else they think their audience won't be engaged, lol.

Commercialization at its finest

Yeah AFL trying to take over the entire calendar. And yes, that ultimately comes back to more advertising dollars, but not just individual 30 second advertising blocks, but also the big money partnerships like NAB, Continental Tyres, Toyota that pay a lot to put their brand all over everything.

And the more eyeballs, the better the chance of getting it on prime time TV. Like the draft currently, I'm convinced most of the things they've changed recently like live trading of picks etc is just to add 'excitement factor' to the broadcast.
