I don't understand. Why didn't the club back themselves in to win a flag in the next 2 years and just offer him a 2 year contract? If we don't win one, okay. He gets better and we get a solid compo pick in 2 years. Just doesn't make sense to me. The fact in this climate it was a 4 years or nothing style contract seems silly.

Blakey is the wildcard in minimising the impact of Dawson's departure. When he came in and played off half back, Dawson moved further up the ground. That is a role that Campbell could still very well do, delivering it inside 50 and playing off a wing as Dawson was doing. Doesn't have his marking capabilities as Punts noted, but he can still be an asset in that role with his kicking.

No way should we be letting Dawson go and not Mclean either. Mclean has been getting better and better and he can take a clean clutch mark.

Sure, it was a 4 year extension, but we don't know what the $$$ were involved in this extension.

I trust that the club did give him a fair offer. And don't forget, he's not only turning his back on the offer, but also turning the his back on the club that developed him. Pea hearted. Won't take me long to get over it.

Even though everyone fauns over him, I think he is very replaceable. With a completely fit squad we have plenty of depth. Campbell and Blakey will fill his pissy boots with ease.
