I concur. Surely deserving of a Strempeling.What a jerk.
Personally I wouldn’t just because I don’t view Callaghan as that much better than the rest of the first round.A few stories about this morning that clubs are coming hard at GWS pick 2/ they might be willing to trade. The idea is that they would be more interested in Gibcus or Andrew and that a pick that satisfies that might be an option. Unfortunately that's not us, but I wonder if we could try. Offer 14, 18 and next year's first for pick 2 and a future 2nd round pick? Then we could take Callahan at 2, Banks or similar at 41and maybe a mature age KPD late or in the rookie draft allowing is to upgrade Madden. I had a look at points to see how that works and we would likely be paying a premium of a couple hundred point in that scenario. Would anyone do that? Would GWS?
YEah fair enough. If we did see him as the clear number 2/3 mid in the draft I would be pretty keen on him. Bear in mind the second and third mids in drafts from 2015 are; Oliver and Parish, Tarranto and Clugga, Brayshaw and Dow, Rozzee and Smith, Anderson and Stephens, Campbell and Hollands. That's a pretty impressive list.Personally I wouldn’t just because I don’t view Callaghan as that much better than the rest of the first round.
No we’ve had our chance he goes into the open draftArticle in the Limited News sites this morning pumping up Casey Voss's chances of being drafted this year as a mature ager. I presume we're still able to take him under father-son if we were still interested?
even if he is a late bloomer, zero chance of Carlton winning a premiership anytime soonMan, it would suck if it turned out he was a late bloomer and played in a Carlton premiership
Careful, it’s Port’s third not GWS’.I'm creating an "Operation Death Ride 3rd rounder" thread as we speak.
And little chance of playing for Carlton you would think. Maybe Vossy's old mates MaCrae/ Leppa might pull a string or two at Collingwood. They would be looking for a few late selections too, with all their picks getting wiped out.even if he is a late bloomer, zero chance of Carlton winning a premiership anytime soon
So we pick him at 41 Suns can only draft him as a rookieSon of Brisbane gun could call Gabba home in 2022
The mature-aged prospect is coming off a best and fairest winning season in the SANFL.www.zerohanger.com
Do the Suns even have a rookie list spot available? So we pick him at 41 Suns can only draft him as a rookie
I know we definitely haven’tDo the Suns even have a rookie list spot available?
I’ve answered the bolded part.Do we really need to draft another hb/small med defender. We have Coleman, Madden, Answerth, Prior pushing for that spot and Carter Michael, Uosis developing. Seems like we have that area covered for a cpl of years at least.
Sm/med fwds and mid/fwds we have plenty of as well.
I'm thinking we need a tall fwd, outside Joe, Hippy n Mcstay, it's Fullerton n H Smith and Smith is probably more a fwd/ruck, ruck/fwd than anything. If there's a good one we could get this year jump on him. They take more time to develop, the sooner we get one the better.
Even a tall defender, Andrews n Payne are our only genuine tall defenders, with Gardiner and Adams capable of playing tall. All are somewhat injury prone. Harris now has a knee problem that hindered the back end of this season. That could become more serious and recurring.
I don't think we need midfielders either, not after Devrob stood up this year and Ashcroft is expected to come on board next year. Quality both of them and should leapfrog our mid depth quickly.
Hard to know what the club is thinking, what they are likely to do. We have previously just taken the best talent available, regardless of the position they play. So I'd reckon that's the way they will go. Trade for needs n draft for talent has worked pretty well over the last 4-5yrs.
Personally I don't see us taking a tall with the idea of playing them forward, as you've mentioned we will already have Fullarton, H Smith, Fort and Lane all mixing between key forward and ruck over the next couple season in the VFL so I don't see the need for a key forward. Key defender on the other hand I do see a need for with now only Payne and Lester as the taller defenders in the reserves.I'm thinking we need a tall fwd, outside Joe, Hippy n Mcstay, it's Fullerton n H Smith and Smith is probably more a fwd/ruck, ruck/fwd than anything. If there's a good one we could get this year jump on him. They take more time to develop, the sooner we get one the better.

We certainly have plenty of players capable of playing there, and I'm not knocking them, it's just worth noting they all have caveats. Starcevich might be ready to play midfield where we need a point of difference, Coleman and Ah Chee may be better suited at HFF, Prior may be better suited at wing, Answerth needs to work his way back from injury and Madden might never make it at senior level. And Rich is 32. Because there are several unknowns here, maybe it's better to say that it's not not a need, because we're not set there the way we are with KPPs.
Who we pick isn't necessarily about positional need anyway. As the club brains trust have said, draft for talent, trade for need. The most talented kids available at our picks may just be HBFs, because the draft is full of talented HBFs and it's a position that isn't all that highly valued around the league. But we know the benefit of having strong ball users in defence.

How many?Yes.
