Personally I would like to draft one from each grouping of players
Erasmus/Goater/Johnson
Wanganeen-Milera/Sinn/Chesser
and with our last first round pick Van Rooyen/Bazzo
I think the difference in talent after the top 4 is small enough to pick players a little bit more on fit than in normal years.

If we can turn Neale and 14 into 6 and 8 we will have made the most out of a bad situation I think.

6, 8, 18 is a strong draft hand and really gives us a good crack at establishing sustained success.

Would of course love a FA or potentially trade the Neale picks for a gun players but don’t see anyone available in a trade.

I don’t see too much difference between the kids potentially available at 8 or 16. I believe it might come down to club needs and preference.

There might not be much separating Josh Sinn from Josh Goater from Josh Ward in terms of actual talent, but one team might be looking for an outside mid with pace, while another team prioritises an inside extractor with class.

So if I can get the draft capital for the Bulldogs first round pick and take 4 first round picks to the draft, I might prefer that option.

Alternatively, Sinn and Goater at 6 and 8 really adds some class and speed to the half back line and midfield, and would really change the potential look of our future midfield.

Sinn and Goater I rate very highly and are my preferred two at 6 and 8. Feels like they have everything we’re crying out for.

18 I’d be looking at a KPP.

Seeing as we have Ashcroft who’s inside and Fletcher who’s outside next year our draft hand could see Us target one midfielder and Two Key position players this season

briztoon whats is the quality of this years draft like? Particularly the first round as compared to previous drafts.
Possibly lacks genuine guns at the top, apart from Daicos, who’s father son to Collingwood.

But the depth is very good out to the top 20. There’s a good KPF and a couple of good KPD’s. Quality mids, inside and out, and wing. A couple of good half forwards and small defenders.

Good depth through the second round. You’re typical quality smaller mids who can play forward, and probably start their career as small forwards or flankers. More half forwards and half backs, a genuine ruck, a couple of second tier KPP’s. And some more decent mids.

A lack of football over the last two years for the Victorian kids has had an impact.

Vic Metro dominated the U16 championships two years ago. It’s possible that if the Vic kids got to play two full year’s, a couple might be considered genuine top end talents, and the depth might be viewed as even stronger than it currently is.

There’s also the view that next years draft has pretty similar quality and depth, with a much better group of KPP’s.

You read my mind. Although I wouldn't mind Wanganeen-Milera either, he's got some real silk.
Yeah I'm starting to really like the NWM pick, although slight has good height, agility and overall movement, kicking is first rate and his ability to create space for himself is unreal. Playing at sanfl league level already is another big tick for a guy with his build.

I just hope the club dentist examines everyone's smiles and mouth guards before we draft them. We've been bit by E Smith and Aish before.

With the uncertainty of ongoing Covid restrictions are kids more likely to say don’t draft me cos imma not see me family ever again ?

Yes,I think they will and that’s not good for us.

Everyone is going to be moving around much more freely by the start of the season next year. This narrative has started to come up in the past month but it is way overblown relative to the likely impact of movement restrictions in six months time.

Yeah ok I just thought of it then.

So the Neale’s should be sweet.

On today’s Road to the Draft episode, someone asked Twomey about Will Ashcroft.

The two most relevant takeaways.

1. He’s a top 5 talent, and in the conversation for pick 1.

2. Likely to join the Brisbane Lions as a father son pick.
I go back and watch the Sandy vs Oakleigh every now and then and he shows some amazing flashes, looks super quick and balanced through traffic. Can sometimes try a little bit too much almost in the same way Bailey does for us currently but more often than not it comes off. Also the amount of attention he copped from the opposition in that game, every opposition player knew who he was and had a bit of a target on him everytime he got near it, good to see a bit of aggression and fight back from him though.

Found this interesting & haven’t seen any discussion on the topic. Obviously a far bit to play out but we could end up with pick 20.

Same article discusses our tight list spots.

RECRUITERS EYE PICK NO.20
CLUBS believe pick No.20 could become hot property at this year's NAB AFL Draft as the last chance rivals will claim Next Generation Academy prospects without forcing a bid.

Under new rules this year, clubs will not be able to match bids on Next Generation Academy prospects within the first 20 selections as the AFL makes that a 'protected zone' of the draft.

From pick No.21 to 40, clubs can match bids under the usual Academy and father-son bidding system and after pick 40 are able to match with their next available pick.

But it means there could be a rush on draft night for clubs trying to trade up to pick 20 to ensure they get full access to a NGA player without that prospect's holder club getting a chance to match the bid.

Holding pick No.20 could be an added bonus for this year's premiers, with their No.18 pick likely to be bumped back two spots due to earlier bids on father-son pair Nick Daicos (Collingwood) and Sam Darcy (Western Bulldogs). The fluid draft order means who holds pick 20 could shift as the night goes on but the protected zone will stop at No.20 no matter how many bids are made.

I don’t believe pick 20 will be that valuable.

What are we going to trade it for?

Teams are unlikely to trade backwards from an early draft pick for it, they’ll just take the nga kid they rate at that spot.

At the moment, Mac Andrew appears to be the only top 20 nga rated kid.

If he’s not gone by pick 20, it’s not like clubs are going to offer up anything extra in a pick trade, than what normally might be offered up if a club is trying to trade up for any other kid.
