Agree with all that, just feel there might be a little overlap if we end up with two of those bigger mids, especially with the players already on the list ideally going through the middle.
Goater, Erasmus, Wanganeen-Milera eventually replace > Zorko, Rich, Lyons long term.

Coleman out of the back delivering to NWM who runs and bounces down the wing and spears the pass onto a leading forwards chest in the F50.. now I'd like to see that.

I do think we need to add at least one key position player this draft to start developing. I also rate NWM class, ball use and positional size over someone like Chesser. From what I’ve seen and heard of Goater one of him, Erasmus or Johnson would be a good get, not sure we need two of them though.
I feel if we go tall we may go early on VJR and play him in the Birchall role

I like NWM as much as the next guy is a fantastic kick so happy with either of him or Chesser depending on who’s available

I think Goater is probably the must have though a tall midfielder with a burst of pace out of clearances he’s definitely something we don’t currently have on our list

I just hope McCluggage, Bailey, Rayner, Berry and Dev can take those spots, plus the guys coming next year. Anyways I better get back to work, thanks for the draft talk, really got into the drafting and list building the last couple years and love talking about it.

Stuff the work, stay on here and more draft/trade talk, I love that discussion post the season being over, up until 3 years ago that obsession was starting in May sadly.

Just having a look through the U19 challenge match between Vic Metro and Vic Country and although he’s not what we need whoever drafts Ben Hobbs will do well, looks like a bit of a beast in the middle.

What did you think about Josh Goater?
Definitely some great athletic tools, much quicker and more agile than I was expecting and the way he moved through traffic was pretty impressive. Made a couple errors by foot but nothing particularly wrong with his kicking action so maybe just an off day. I noticed him kind of just jogging up and down the centre square a lot with not a lot of urgency but that seems like something that would get worked out in an AFL system. Overall a couple things to improve but with the way he moves and his size I’d say he has quite a high ceiling and could be a pretty unique player at his peak if it works out.

I heard a rumour that Hobbs is being talked about by clubs as going much more highly than he is currently being taken in mocks.

I wonder how much interest our drafting team took at top end of this draft. Could be doing some rethinking and scrambling at the moment.
Basically sums up why teams need to look and interview everyone. You just never know what surprises in trades or drops might come about

I believe quite a few draft watchers rate him top 5.

Question really is, do GWS or Gold Coast need another on ball mid?

Do any of the teams with a top 5 or 6 pick need Hobbs?

Not surprised, if we didn’t already have Dev and some other inside mids he would be a perfect replacement for Neale

And how many draftees have started dreaming of joining the lions.

GWS love contested ball mids - they had Caldwell and lost him.
Hobbs would be a good Callan Ward replacement for them.

GWS has had heaps of second half of first round picks which is where contested mids who got a lot of the ball and have questionable disposal live. :D They've ended up with a very unbalanced midfield mix as a result - Hopper, Taranto, Green, Greene (occasionally) and others all can play effectively the same role. GWS as a result are calling out for run and quality disposal - they looked a lot more dangerous when Ash went into the middle, even if he was tagging. Not sure who fits that description.

Taranto looked promising when they pushed him forward to play the role of Greene. Wondering if a permanent switch may be on cards next year, leaving the midfield to Hopper, Green, Ward. I just remembered Tanner Bruhn is available as well to go through either spots. Hobbs might be surplus indeed.

Im not super impressed with the inside mids at Adelaide or Hawthorn (especially if they move Mitchell on). They have players there but not sure they have the young quality they need for the next 10 years that they would turn down a quality inside mid

Callaghan.

If we end up with a top 10 pick from Fremantle I’d love one of the taller mids e.g. Erasmus, Goater, Johnson or Sinn(I expect him to become a mid/maybe a winger).
Yeah, Goater and Sinn are my two preferred options at our potential first pick.

I’m hoping Erasmus goes before our first pick.

What are your knocks on Erasmus? Do you still see him as a first round prospect?
