Yeah, being "given a go to see what he can offer" is a long way from "a move into the midfield". It's still speculative. He's a player I believe offers more to the team in defence long term. Sure, it would be handy for him to be able to pinch hit in the midfield should there be injuries during a game. Rich has on occasions. Fagan likes a bit of versatility in his players, I get that, but I believe whole heartedly his best spot is down back and he will be needed there more than in the midfield.Chris Fagan on an episode of The Roar Deal recently said that Starcevich will be given a go in the midfield to see what he can offer, said he has the stamina and the skills for the position.
I'd be a little peeved if we took Butler. I really don't see a need there to spend a first round pick on him

I like him at 20, he's definitely more than an exciting small forward. Really good athlete that uses it during games, good goal sneak, tackles really well in the forward 50 as well as midfield, moves well through traffic, looks pretty strong and balanced to go with his speed and agility so is hard to tackle, averaged about 20 touches a game in the NAB league so has shown he can find a fair bit of footy for a fwd/mid, not a super clean user of the ball though.I agree, based purely on me reading in an article that he is an exciting small-medium forward. That's my educated draft opinion.

Edit: Just had a look at his profile and he's an October birth so only a couple months younger than Wilmot, decent size at 184cm.
I agree with you on JVR although regardless of replacing Dizzy I think we could do with another younger KPD.I similarly dislike the idea of the JVR kid purely because I disagree with the #take on here that he will be a dizzy gardiner replacement.
Now if people were going to tell me he would replace Payne as our depth tall with a view to playing regular footy in 2 seasons time? I could get on board with that.
Anyway, looking forward to watching the draft and coming up with some scorching takes tonight, as well as based upon the binocular emoji I'll photoshop onto my bigfooty profile.
I believe half an hour of King wisdom, unfortunately. Is there any indication of what time the draft will actually kick off? ie will they start the draft selections at 6pm (Qld time) or do I need to factor in a period of pre-draft David King and co?
In that updated late mail draft on Foxsports it has us still taking Darcy Wilmot at 16 and the Tigers taking Neil Erasmus at 17.Latest gossip of Erasmus falling late into the teens. Havent read much about him but he sounds pretty good to me
None of the talls this year besides Gibcus look decent. IMO. Maybe Andrew but gee he'd take 5 years before you see any decent returns IMO. I just don't see why the Suns would take that risk...
Rather just draft best available. maybe look to move up the board to snare a Erasmus or Johnson.
Hearing that there could be some concussion issues with Ward which is why Hawthorn are suddenly being linked with other players.
I really like Wilmot as well, but if Erasmus is available surely he is too good for us to pass on at 16.Might be just me but Darcy Wilmot reminds me a bit of Elliot Yeo when he was at the club. A bit rough around the edges but has speed, takes the game on and is tough both in the air and on the ground. Has a fair bit of upside if you ask me.
It was mentioned in The Age article from four days ago:
Hard-working Ward wills his way into the draft
When Josh Ward was a junior, football was like a running race. Through his gut-running, he learnt to break the shackles.amp.theage.com.au
And can play as a tall forward option as well.Cheers I missed that.
Ned Long gets a mention in that article and he is one guy that could be worth a punt on if we were looking for a big bodied option. 195cm mid with top end endurance. Speed is a bit of an issue but he will get to contests and is a bit of a bull. Could very much end up a Cripps type.
Any chance he's still there at 41?Cheers I missed that.

RichmondI can't wait for all this to be over with so we can get to the real fun stuff.
