And they had enough if Daicos went at 3, but not at 2 or 1. May have enough if he goes at 2 now.
They now have 2406 pts according to Lore's spreadsheet. pick 1 = 3,000 pts and 20% discount means they need 2,400 pts. NM have flagged they are taking JHF at #1. Pick 2 is 2517 pts and after discount need 2014 pts.

I think 7 reported that the wrong way around. Richmond get 27.

lol that makes so much more sense.
If they've got enough pts but now have extra picks, they obviously intend to use these later picks.

This trade saw them get an extra 191 pts this year, so if they have news from NM and GWS that they definitely wont bid on Daicos, then they have just ensured that they have 3 picks after a bid at #3 - pick 48 with the 60pts needed from that pick and converts that to 53, as well as 55 and 58 which get adjusted anyway by chewing up picks 36, 38, 40, 46 and part of 48.

If they know GC wont bid on Daicos so he now will be taken at # 4, then they only have to give up 36, 38, 40 and part of 46 and balance becomes 65, so they have 48, 55, 58 and 65 to use.
As ford pointed out the tweet in the quote I responded to had the trade the wrong way around which is why it made zero sense.

Someone during trade week said he started as a HBF. Your post made me look at the draft and trading board to see how accurate that comment was. Found this from Weaver's review of 2007 talent in July 2007 after the national championships.

29. Patrick Dangerfield (BP, Centre)
Was on-fire early for Geelong in the backpocket where he beat all comers as a rampaging backpocket. Given the tough tagging tasks in the carnival so is perhaps under-exposed. Big-bodied centreman / onballers are rare and sought after and Dangerfield fits the profile. He is tough as teak and kicks the ball well. No Jordan Lewis (yet) but clubs after someone to fill that sort of ruck-rover role won't have too many options and Dangerfield will be close to the best of them.
Dangerfield lined up on Ebert once in juniors and ebo kicked 4 I believe...

AFL 2021: Gary Buckenara rates every club’s list after the 2021 season
Is your club in the premiership window or ready for a long rebuild? Expert recruiter Gary Buckenara puts every club’s list under the blowtorch.

Most clubs get a not very complimentary report card, then he gets to Port ....

.......
PORT ADELAIDE
“The Power has a group that is capable of winning a premiership and this is what should burn and motivate them as they lick their wounds from 2021, recover and prepare for next year. I am confident Port Adelaide will bounce back in 2022 and will again be one of the teams challenging to win the premiership.”

He is much more confident than 90% of Port supporters!

Clubs don’t seem to rate players after the first 14 selections. Overall, “the picks worth keeping” were the Top-14. [11 held/3 traded]

Between pick 15 and pick 66, clubs have traded away 41 of the 52 selections. From 15 to 26 (12 picks), only 4 were kept.

After that, the trades slow down again. Of the last 4th-round picks (67-76), 5 were kept, while 5 were traded. Then, in Round 5, there was only 1 trade.

R1, 1-14: 3 traded/11 held (27.3%)
R1-R4, 15-66: 41/11 (78.8%)
R4, 67-76: 5/5 (50.0%)
R5, 77-94: 1/17 (5.6%)

By Round
R1: 1-18 (7 traded)
Priority: 19 (traded)
R2: 20-39 (11)
R3: 40-58 (15)
R4: 59-76 (12)
R5: 77-94 (1)

I’m reevaluating my draft board. Mac Andrew was at 20 but I’m seriously considering moving him up. Here’s why:

* would be the perfect 3rd tall/second ruck for combination with Hayes
* I know 2022 has plenty who could also fill the role but none will have the athletic profile of Andrew
* I know his highlights are misleading because he goes missing in games but we would have Lycett’s life expectancy to teach him football. As we would have a very defined role for him, 3 years should be plenty
* If we are building a Rozee, Butters dynasty, you need to have your tall players in place first- they take longer to ripen- then get your inside mids, flankers.
* I had him at 20 based mostly on Port’s needs- didn’t think we needed him as such. It’s really that that I am reevaluating.

The great unknown is whether Lukosius is a real thing or not. If he is, this may weaken my above arguments and lessen the need to push Andrew up the draft board.

I'd be pretty filthy if Port spent a first round pick on a 3rd tall/2nd ruck development player, especially with a pick improved by trading out a decent 3rd tall/2nd ruck that had just spent years developing on the list.

Mac Andrew has his own theme song. If this was WWE and this wasn't played on the Titantron as his entrance music, I'd be severely disappointed:
