If we get to the bye and he hasn’t yet signed I will get a bit concerned.Anyone concerned that Mcluggage still hasn't signed a contract?

Just Managers doing their job hanging in trying to squeeze every dollar for their client.I'm already concerned. Our other players have all signed except for him - which tells me that he is keeping his options open. I still think he will sign a new contract, but it is concerning that he didn't jump at the offer to stay straight away.
NupAnyone concerned that Mcluggage still hasn't signed a contract?
I looked at their board for a witho update and Oscar Allen looks like he will be a handful this year. Not much on Witho other than a couple pics, been quarantining as spent time in VicI find the eagles really interesting and kind of in the reverse position we are in. Logically you'd say that they should be better assuming they don't have to hub (though with current WA border restrictions, seems very unlikely that we will avoid them entirely), but they had the most overperformance according to their expected score - because they were so accurate, their score was way more than what expected conversion would be.
By contrast we are the opposite - definitely less games in QLD, but if our conversion improves from worst in the league to mid pack, we will be a much better team.
I think he will want to get his accuracy up and rightly state he is elite after last year. Not concerned, I'd be saying wait if I was his manager, I'm confident he will extendAnyone concerned that Mcluggage still hasn't signed a contract?
Yep expecting this one to take a while to sort out. Don't imagine he has any plans to leave, but it certainly wont be easy to satisfy a player of his ability/ potential. He is at a bit of a crossroad contract and age wise. Already has significant runs on the board yet could very well go to a whole new level (Dusty/ Danger/ Fyfe style) in the next couple of years. Perhaps his management want a contract that finishes when he qualifies for free agency and the club is trying to push past that with much longer term deal? Or perhaps it's the other way around and the club is looking for a simple two or three year extension on slightly better coin and he is keen on that big 5 + year deal you would normally see for guys a little older than him?Just Managers doing their job hanging in trying to squeeze every dollar for their client.

It doesn't tell you anything at all.I'm already concerned. Our other players have all signed except for him - which tells me that he is keeping his options open. I still think he will sign a new contract, but it is concerning that he didn't jump at the offer to stay straight away.
I'd make the call if he did an ACL the club would put the same offer in front of him. This approach also comes with risks. If Hugh were to incur a significant injury before he signs a new contract for instance
All subject to COVID, we have seen QLD and WA will close borders very quickly. IF no hubs in SEQ then top 6 for us. I believe Carlton have a good draw and I reckon they will improve in 2021The article has 9 "hold" positions which are reasonable predictions
The ladder was tight last year so maybe a "hold" is just around a similar finish result
Regarding Brisbane i will be happy with a top 4 finish and would consider that a "hold" position as you get a double chance and a home final
2020 ladder
1.5 wins between 3rd & 1st
2.5 wins separated 3rd - 7th
.5 win from 7th - 8th
and another 2.5 wins between 8th - 12th
So GWS could fall from 10th to 13th quite easily
Looking forward to a career best year from him. Think he will be delighted with the forward options availableMcCluggage is an interesting one because everyone's tipping him to be a superstar but he's yet to prove conclusively he will be and from our perspective we're trying to keep and get the best list that we can to have a tilt at flags.
If we offered him a really good 3-4 year deal it should be enough but you don't know what conversations his manager is having with other clubs. Nor where he sees himself living the next few years . I'd be surprised if he didn't resign but when you're at the stage we're at where other clubs have clearly seen and have the capacity to assess our players' abilities it's possible that one or two slip through the net. You'd think we're doing all we can to keep him and there's been no inkling that he's anything but happy.
It's very rare for a player on the cusp of a great career to leave a club likewise on the cusp of success with a great team culture and set up.Looking forward to a career best year from him. Think he will be delighted with the forward options available
Well we have only finished 2nd at the end of the last two H&A seasons, and won one final.Fages is out of contract this year as well I think - would like the Club to move on extending his tenure sooner rather than later as well...get it over and done with before the season starts.

Should we settle for mediocrity?
Yep your on to it.That Damien Hardwick bloke knows a bit about premiership glory and off-field culture at a footy club
Maybe we should contact him and have a straight swap of head coaches for 2022 if we don't win the premiership this year
What would even go wrong?
Pretty confident he will stay, but would not be surprised if a Godfather offer came from the likes of Geelong as well, just to make it interesting. There's the possibility that a deal with McCluggage has been done in principle but not announced. I actually think that's a stronger possibility than Hugh leaving.
The dead zone for footy clubs is Dec-Jan. Very little gain in sharing good news at that time. Announcing a big signing in Dec-Jan will get forgotten quickly. A big announcement in the lead-up to the pre-season comp gets fans engaged and excited.

you would think we would have more coin in the kitty for Clugga and anyway, he's got to be on board for the next 3 years at least given our chances at a Grand final and Fages , culture, comradary . and so on.
