Correct, but it was still cringeworthy, on all occasions won or lost.

At least in the home finals, we had the crowd behind us. The crowd got pretty vocal during the stance IIRC.

Was never going to work with 80-85% of the crowd going for the opposition. Amazing how outnumbered our supporters were compared to 97/98.

I think you may need to sit through the GF again and see how badly we played after quarter time. We were on the end of some bad umpiring that day but it didnt cost us the game...but if on that day, had we played like we had majority of that year, we would of won the premiership, i was not that impressed with richmonds 2017 grand final performance, it was more down to how we didn't show up after half time. Their 2019 and 2020 premierships were more impressive. We were no where near the level on grand final day and any of the 4 teams this year would of beat us.
I remember talking to a tigers bloke at half time in the loo, I was still pretty confident we'd adjust and beat them 2nd half. We just didn't fire a shot. Some of that may be because of Richmond's system, but in general it was us

I was there, and in 97, and I would say that there was similar proportions. The noise early from Crows fans was good. It's just we didn't make much noise after the first qtr because there was nothing to cheer about

Aren't all Port supporters smug pr!cks?

I actually think it might be a good thing for our club.
Unfortunately, the Rob Chapman era repeatedly proved one thing - that we overrate ourselves constantly. Thoroughly convinced of our own superiority, we never thought we needed to improve or that *shock* we didn't already have the best people working for us. Despite all evidence suggesting we were in fact mediocre, we clung to this belief stubbornly. It led us to being....mediocre.

Bottom line is, we need a kick up the backside every now and then to stop the back slapping parties we like so much. Port being competently run and having success does that. Port being bottom and no threat off field, let's us continue to believe our delusions of grandeur.

I still hope Port lose.
We've had the wake up call and are taking steps to address it. Port to lose Saturday please.

I was there in 98. My feeling was there were more neutrals there that year. This time around it felt like it was all Richmond.

here we go - the port kissed on the ***k luck they have had most of this year keeps on rolling on. How about a few of their boys get injury problems instead of every team they play just when they play them

I nearly vomited this morning when Kochead said how Port had battled through some difficulties this season. Is he delusional?
Gifted the easiest draw in the competition.
No quarantining.
Stay home.
Lowest impact from injuries of all teams.

They couldn't have had an easier path.

10,000 tickets for the general public for the GF, which is great news - I hope that's something that happens in future GFs.
Its a tragedy that this does not occur, more so with more tickets.

One thing that pisses me off is those that attend the GF and have no idea whats going on, but go for the "event".

I often will not go to a mates house for BBQ on GF day, because everyone is busy eating and drinking and no one cares about the game.

That plastic franchise even manufactures "fake" hardship.

They will resort to anything to make up stories to sell their artificial brand.

Reserves team able to play proper games all season too.

Will make their choke even sweeter.

I'm not convinced we have had enough of it. We are making changes sure, but will we really remove the root cause...?
To what are you referring ??

2017 GF

I can relate to all the reasons people have given for our loss. I think they all played a part.

The one big “uh-oh..” moment for me - and I can still see it in my mind’s eye, plain as day - was at a centre bounce, Sloane goes to handball to a teammate, Cotchin sees what’s about to happen and gets a little hand in to intercept it, gets the ball, they’re away, goal.

The difference between assuming it’s going to happen, and making it happen.

The one I remember vividly in a day I've pretty well erased from memory - Centre bounce (It may even have been the one to start the 3rd quarter) Douglas gets the ball, runs towards 50, gets run down, HTB.

That was the moment I knew it wasn't happening.

Much truth in this post. Good job.

I wonder how we might feel about our club if Port win a couple or more flags in the next few years. Being #2 in SA would force action towards some of the management decisions we currently wish for.

Let's hope for a doggies upset this weekend...

You will eventually learn, only worry about thing you can control.

If you can control it, do something about it and if you can’t control it, don’t worry about it. Simple philosophy that will ensure a good nights sleep and less stress.

if you can’t control it, find someone to break the legs of the guy that can

Port deserve to start as favourites. Good side. Good form. Home track. Full list etc...
Doggies have been good other than the last few rounds. Staggering to the line somewhat but they were good last weekend against Brisbane.
I hope they take it right up to Port.
The 2 big outs will be enough to get poort over the line. And for the next 2 weeks the state will be painted teal. Well at least I have practice being locked down

A hypothetical (I hope) question.

We know that there have been a number of truck drivers enter SA and test positive. It seems almost ridiculous to suggest they not one of the 6 passed on the virus here in SA. So, given it has been just over a week since, it is possible that we suddenly see a spike in case numbers appear.
Let's say that on Thursday we have 3 cases and on Friday we suddenly have 10. Will the government release this info immediately? Would Marshall cancel crowds at the footy on Saturday?

Or do we think he might keep quiet until Sunday...?

Wouldn't be ridiculous that nobody got infected at all. They've worn masks and would only have brief interactions when not in trucks. Although the day on the piss at the pub is a different risk level altogether.

That is just not true....Melbourne, Bulldogs, Port & Geelong all very good teams, any of those teams would of beat us on gf day the way we turned up that day.

we turned up perfectly fine, we're up a fair way into the second quarter. We just couldn't run with them all day, they wore us 8nto the ground. When you run a 4 man midfield with zero flexibility and too tall up forward and down back, a warm September day on the MCG is not for you.
