I still maintain port don't need excuses. Port is simply not good enough.

Bullshit fixture = top 2.

Were crap all year against any genuine good side.

Played a geriatric downward-spiralling Geelong in the first final, unsurprisingly belted them, started the ad nauseam chest puffing.

Drank their bathwater.

Played a decent team in the prelim.

Expected train wreck was always on the cards.
Wash, Rinse, Repeat again in 2022.

Wouldnt surprise me if they made a Prelim again with the same result.

Good read, I liked it so much, I borrowed this gif to share.

Hahahaha!..

Classic.

Loved this bit especially..

“In the event, of course, they’re now the first team to lose back-to-back home preliminary finals since the Western Bulldogs in 1997 and 1998.

Which, as you can imagine, is particularly amusing given Crows supporters were the beneficiaries on all four occasions.”

They could only beat us by four points with two players down, says it all

They treat Showdowns like Finals, this result against us was foreshadowing what was going to happen in a Prelim against a decent Top side.

That lady in the front looks like she was praying for a Robbie Gray goal as I know when that pic was taken lol.

Wobbie went out of bounds on the full instead. The guy in the far right on the bottom, looks like he already had given up watching the game.
Yep.. that was the goal he missed in the last few minutes of the first quarter..

Dogs then took it down the other end and kicked two more in the last minute and a half..

Was really game over from that point..

Does Hartlett get another gig anywhere? Does any other team currently have a deficiency in the 'bang on a drum like an orangutan with no sense of rhythm after beating the bottom team' area?
Rolling Stones have a drummer vacancy

FMD I forgot about the drums.

Thats what Port is really all about in the end, smoke and mirrors.

I still stand by what I say they were lucky to play the Lions in a GF, that were forced to play a home prelim at the G the week before.

I think it will be tough for them to make it again.

2020 to me was their peak.

They're an aging list and besides Ollie Wines they have no high end talent in their mid 20s

Since 2020 they've lost Ebert and Hartlett, Robbie Gray is 34 next year and not even close to the player he was, Boak is 34 next year, Dixon 32 next year, Motlop 31 next year, Jonas 31 next year and Lycett is turning 30 next year too.

It's hard to see where the improvement is going to come from.

...dont forget the toss; how comical was that :drunk:
Umpire couldn't tell the difference between heads or tails, threw it up again, Poort won it apparently:oops: going by the bemused look of the Doggie.

Fortunately the toss served no advantage to the Puffers

I hope they keep Dixon.

Best thing about the crowd behind is like 3/4 of them are watching through their phones instead of watching what's happening in front of them. Which hopefully means they all now have 1st person visionary evidence of their Grand Final hopes going up in smoke.
Probably scrambling to cancel flights and accommodation!

Yep I said last year was their best shot and they blew it, I maintained this year they were not getting close.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was a big part the reason why Boak was so upset after the game.

He knows that they've potentially missed their window and the dream of making the GF and winning a flag might now be past them.

And the Lions had a day less rest, forced to play their "home" prelim away and a day later than Port played their home prelim at home.

AFL did not want a four peat.

Nice summary from Barrett here:

The second of those games, Saturday night's preliminary final loss to the Bulldogs, was a disaster, a full-blown choke and an embarrassment. There was simply not one excuse for the events which unfolded, and how this plays out in the next few weeks in a series of reviews is going to make for very interesting storylines, for the non-presence of so many big-name players could not have been predicted.
Coach Ken Hinkley's nine seasons in charge has seen three preliminary finals exits. The first two, 2014 and 2020, were by a kick, Saturday night's by 71 points.
Port Adelaide exists to win premierships. It hasn't done so since 2004. It appeared beautifully poised for the past month to at least make the 2021 Grand Final, but now must face internal and external doubt for another 12 months.
Excellent analysis
flashcrow I know you made a great gif of Port dropping the 2020 Premiership Cup, would be nice to add 2021 version. So we relive the memories over summer and into the 2022 season when the neighbours finally reappear on here.

Maybe Gray kicking out of bounds on the full in the first? I mean thats when the game was absolutely dead and gone by that stage.
Or Willem Drew starting on the bench watching Libba jnr

Flat trackers with shit results against top sides
They Bradbury’d their way to top 4 and it showed

Interesting that Port took Hartlett ahead of Rich
