David Parkin had the best idea - the ball must travel 30 metres - if it doesnt - its not a mark - its play on - hes not piddling around with some 5 metre irrelevant change

The worst problem with the current game - if you are watching a neutral game - and want to be entertained and excited - is the chipping the ball around in the backline

Current Geel team who do that - you put up with that - because thats the team you support . However as a neutral - Hawks in their 3 peat - that chipping the ball around in their backline i did not enjoy one little bit

Now Rich - their current style - it is a far cry from Bill Barrot kicking a 60 metre bullet to Royce Hart - it is way inferior to that - however - they are one of the few clubs who dont feuck around in the backline with that short chip passing rubbish ( which is putrid to watch ) they move the ball swiftly from the backline and take risks - so as a neutral watching that gets a big tick from me
Bingo. Its not contested ball that is the problem. Its the strategy teams use to avoid contested ball. The boring as batsh*t chip kicking that has ruined the game.

allow marks off only long kicks and you fix the problem. 1 rule change fixes it all.

Won’t that just encourage teams to stack even more men behind the ball?

And whats wrong with that? If teams are forced to kick long rather then chip it around it will mean more pack marks, more tackles, more snapped goals from roving of the packs and more contests.

chip kicking is the problem. Not contests.

what neutral gets excited by hawkins marking a ball on the end of a 10 metre chip kick? no one. Taking a big pack mark from a 50 metre bomb down to a contested goal square. Now thats exciting.

Much easier for umps to judge. They are terrible at judging shorter kicks.

Especially when they call "Play on, not 15" when the ball is still in the air. Same will still probably happen no matter what the legal distance is.

Mason Cox elite?..hmmm.....Zac Fisher elite in front of Mitch Duncan....or Zach Merret even?....Perryman but no Whitfield?...I shouldn't be surprised at what CD serve up...

Rory Sloane,Toby Green.

Yet more evidence of the fact that CD's ranking system for players is irreparably broken. I acknowledge we'll all have our 'favourites' on this list, who simply don't appear to belong at all. But surely almost everyone must agree that any ranking system that considers the likes of Z. Fisher, M. Cox, H. Perryman and B. Williams as 'elite' can't ever be taken seriously.

When your system produces demonstrably absurd results like these ones, it simply has to be time to head back to the drawing board.

Are CD rankings based on player position, age and how they compare across those type of parameters?

And I know that Rowell looked promising at the start of last year, but he only played 4 and a bit matches - surely calling him elite on the back of that is a bit questionable

He won the final against us last year singlehandedly ffs. Geelong fans have no right to knock his selection. Every other clubs supporters fair enough. But not us.
Of course we have every right to knock him. We witnessed first hand all those games were he looked like he could not be bothered at all. All the times he squibbed contests. All the times he’d selfishly burn teammates to try to get goals for himself, only to balls it up. We all know that he simply is not elite. Never has been, never will be.

Plays about 3 good games a year.
