Dempsey is pretty fair, how many votes did he get?

3 in total

2 - Richmind
1 - Essendon

The predictor had him on 8 votes
Richmond - 2; umpires gave him 2
Essendon - 3; umpires gave him 1
Hawthorn - 1; no love from umpires
North - 2; no love from umpires, they preferred North players when we smashed them in Hobart

I honestly think that's it for the umpires as a Brownlow judges. They've forfeited all their credibility now as being able to decide this on their own.

Proposal: merge the Brownlow with the Leigh Matthews Coaches Trophy (there's too many player of the season awards anyway so this will be a good thing in and of itself) and have a single MVP award each year based on an aggregate of coaches votes, umpires votes and media votes.

To my knowledge we have the only back pocket to win the brownlow. Bernie Smith.
In today's game he'd lose an AA spot to some flanker who can't defend and would poll less than 5 votes for a career.

Yeah, but you're a footy die hard, once it loses the redirect of the average punter it's discrediting the history of the people that won it in years where it was reasonably well adjudicated

This!

It effects the legacy of the sport. When the average casual footy fan looks back at Brownlow results in 10 or 20 years time they're not going to be thinking "gee, the umpires were wildly biased towards Player X during this period of Brownlow history", they're just going to look at the overall Medal tallies and factor that into their appraisal of who were the best players.
