I’m a broken record on this but Max Hudgeton should have played in 09. Yeah I know he hadn’t played for a while but going into what would be his final game he would have died on field if needed.
Probably the worst crime this club has ever committed

The 2nds unfortunately.
Anyone know how Carlisle went?
Who did he play on? As a key defender on the B team I assume he would have lined up on Membrey or Battle from the A Team?
Hopefully he looked good!

Imagine all things going well and ahead of schedule and not putting any pressure on paddy because family definitely comes first, the ins we could have in say round 3 or 4.

in:
Crouch
Marshall
Ryder
Hannebery
Geary

just got to find a way to beat the giants, demons and bombers the first 3 rounds (which I think is very doable with our depth), then we could have an injection of experienced but fresh players to rotate into the team for some sore bodies or players out of form. Trying to look at it as a positive

Gerard Healy and McClure previewed St Kilda on AW.

Is this the most bog ignorant thing you’ve ever heard? I’m usually not too fussed by what people say. But inclusive pearlers:
- Coffield is disappointing
- Clark needs to lift
- No kids. Couldn’t think of King
- Gerard never seen Bytel, couldn’t comment
- completely overlooks the age demographic of who we have brought in (think of Doogs, Higgins, Butler, etc).

Sorry, I was listening on Spotify. Should be on AW too. Think it was Friday.

Worst part was that he said he had a real in depth look at the list to get ready for the preview too. I turned it off after he said Coffield was disappointing and that he should be in the team, he clearly didn’t have a look at anything about the list. These people get paid to know football, think about that.

Lol they named Rowan Marshall as our best kid.

It reads as an interview that they looked at our age profile and average age/games based.

'Coffield should be in the team!' - he is....?

Forgetting Max King is a pretty big travesty lol. Would be like forgetting Riewoldt in our preview of 2004.

Ok so they do remember him eventually.

Easily the worst season preview of the year.

Nothing like claiming that Coffield - 5th in bnf and played 18 games last year - needs to do more to get into the side.

And that we are primed to drop off a clip in 24 months because of our list profile and need to be more like Port Adelaide to avoid this drop off. Except, with everyone at full fitness, have 1-3 players over 28 in our best 22 and 6 who are under 22 in our best 22 compared to Port who have between 7-9 players who are over 28 in their best 22 and between 4-6 who are under 22 in their best 22.

Also enjoyed the 3 minutes Petrecca and Dusty talk, including discussion on which premierships Richmond would have lost without Dusty.

Played as the deepest defender for the 2nds, mainly on Battle with a bit of time on Membrey.

I thought he did well and you could see his superior technique in getting the forward out of position to get a spoil in compared to the other defenders on his side.

Well you saved me 10 minutes of not listening to this $h1t so thanks 😊

It must be realized McClure and Healy do not hardly ever look at any of St Kilda games or interest in any of the players and wouldn't even recognize Hunter Clark or Coffield if they were in the same room.

We are in a hell of a position having
Max King who could be anything

Hunter Clark has been slowly developed from a half back flank and is now looking at spending more time in the middle.

Coffield is in the same boat as Hunter Clark but in my honest opinion Coffield covers the ground as smooth as anyone I have seen and could well be a dead set superstar.

Battle has been thrown ever where to fill gaps in our team, he has the ability to move like a midfielder but can fill any key position and when given a set role should blossom int a star.

Paton has proved he is more than a average player and if had the chance to play in the midfield could be more than a surprise than just keeping the best small forwards quiet.

Bytel has been behind the 8 ball from the start of his career having missed his first season due to a back injury and last year just unable to get game time due to this covid crap.

This is just 6 players who could develop to be anything and are showing development and only 2 of them have turned 22.

Then look at our key players
Howard , Butler , Marshall , Billings , Sinclair , Gresham , Higgins , Steele , Jones , Lonie , Wilkie , Long are 25 or younger and you then have Hill - 27, Crouch -27, Membery - 26 who could all play into there 30s

We are in great shape to dominate finals for the next 5 years minimum and who to say we don't secure some more cream to this squad with the coming seasons with a few of our elder players in the twilight of there careers.

With Oliver , Bont , Cripps , Josh Kelly , Merrett all off contract and Ben King the year after we are in a great position to get one or 2 of these guys.

A prediction this year - if Hill , Billings , Sinclair and Crouch get of the leash this year and King holds his marks we could dominate the season and its not hype - we have actual goal kickers in Membery , Gresham , Higgins , Butler , Lonie and Billings to make 7 to 8 goal games a thing of the past and make 100pt games more common.

Last year no thought we were finals contenders , this year they are saying we might make the 4 if everything falls right - well they better know we have the team to steam roll everyone if we get the majority of our list together by finals.
A fit Marshall and Crouch will be important as the season goes on.

I get that they don't watch that many Saints games but some basic stats research would have shown that Coffield went from a fringe development player to one that finished 2020 as the fifth highest total mark taker in the whole league, fourth in marks per game and the sixth in effective disposal percentage. How could anyone claim that's disappointing. That's just embarrassing yourself as a commentator. Paton wasn't far behind and Clark has shown heaps.

Jeez I get excited when I see ‘FB:’ towards the top of your posts.

I’m surprised to hear this actually, because usually when McClure talks about the Saints he is very bullish about them - it almost sounds like he has a soft spot for them.

I’ll tell you who really surprises me with his positivity about the Saints though, and that is “Der-Wayne”. I don‘t enjoy his game day commentary but his afternoon show on SEN, when I am able to listen, is usually very good.
