Can someone get me past the bloody paywall.

Notes from Mark Duffield.

- Duggan looked on and was hitting targets left and right. Set for a huge 2021.
- Edwards went up against Vardy in the ruck contests and I'd say that Vardy has the inside running at the moment
- Trew looked a class above the other midfielders bar Gaff. Just knew how to find the footy and wouldn't miss a target all session.
- Sheed kicked on his right foot for 80% of the game, I reckon. Nice to see players working on their non-preferred so readily.
- Kennedy looked like he was doing a great job 'coaching' the younger forwards in between the quarters. Allen in particular seemed to be following him around.
- Gee Ainsworth has some skills. He mainly jogged laps before spending the last half hour or so on set shots - curled a few beauties from behind the boundary line at the end for a bit of fun. Hardly saw him miss a kick.
- What interested me the most was that Brander split his time between the defenders and the forwards, could be seeing a swingman role in 2021.
- Langdon is very fast - Cripps couldn't keep up.
- Nelson is pale as buggery and still doesn't really have the body shape you'd expect of an AFL player.
- There was a big bloke who pulled up next to me and I could have sworn it was Suma, but I'm sure I was wrong...
- No sign of Yeo, Warerman or Kelly . Couldn't tell you why.

Good signs from training today according to an article in the West:

Summary:

  • JK kicked 3 goals in a 30 minute match sim
  • Starting midfield was TK/Shuey/Gaff with Duggan on a wing
  • TK was very good and explosive in and around stoppages - thumb is still strapped
  • Oscar started up forward and had a stint down back
  • Vardy was Nic's partner in the ruck
  • Williams still in rehab group
  • Langdon did not participate but ran well on the second oval
  • Waterman did not participate

"Key West Coast pair Josh Kennedy and Tim Kelly have proved their fitness for round one by playing starring roles in a match simulation workout at Mineral Resources Park this morning.

Kennedy (calf) and Kelly (thumb) missed both of the Eagles’ pre-season fixtures against Fremantle but look set to return for next Sunday’s home season-opener against Gold Coast.

Kennedy, 33, kicked three goals in a 30-minute match simulation session for a West Coast A team against a B side.

Kelly started in the centre square for the A team alongside Luke Shuey, Andrew Gaff and ruckman Nic Naitanui. A new-look Liam Duggan, who has lost his mullet, played on the wing.

Kelly linked up strongly with Naitanui in close, exploding from stoppages several times with trademark clearances."

So much for Kelly's broken collarbone.

Not sure what the purpose is behind an A team vs B team match. Oh yay the stars kicked arse.

I'd rather see two balanced sides having a (bruise free) crack. Would have thought it would give a better idea of which "b grader" is most ready to step up for Round One when they're able to play with some established stars rather than other kids and Hickeys.

I think it is to practice set plays and create synergy between backs/mids/forwards and refine each players role.

It might not be the most competitive hitout, but probably the best use of their time given how interrupted and short the pre season has been.

Glass, Cox & Judd into our HoF. All very well deserved :heart::heart:

Other members are Bill Sutherland (trainer), Chris Lewis (player), Peter Matera (player), Dean Kemp (player), Glen Jakovich (player), Guy McKenna (player), John Worsfold (player/coach), Mick Malthouse (coach), Michael Brennan (player), Brett Heady (player), Chris Mainwaring (player), Ashley McIntosh (player), Peter Sumich (player), Trevor Nisbett (administrator)

Still a fair few names to go in I reckon.

11 players from our early 90’s premierships and these 3 are the first of our mid 2000’s teams

Given their off field issues it’s hard to see Cousins or Kerr being inducted anytime soon. Wirrpunda and Embley the next two most likely

Then Rojo

Morbid to say but cousins will be admitted in the clubs HOF posthumously.
