Witts to Hind
Young to Cumming

I’m confident in Hind being a season keeper. And Cumming being an easy trade to a Stewart type in 4-5 weeks

Interesting. Happy to forgo at least 1 or 2 of Robertson/Burgess/Waterman/Park this week?

Not saying it's the wrong strategy. I'm still on the fence who to take as I'm still missing Hind also.

Robertson could blow up in my face if he gets dropped in a week or two. But with a 93 off the bat, it won't take him long to rocket up in price. It's now or never on him.

This is what it's looking like at the moment. Tossing up the big risk to put the C on Tex this week against North Melbourne. Anyone got another premo mid or forward in mind to put in place of Dunkley? I've already got Macrae, Merrett and Taranto.

The way I see it is those rookies all have low BE’s, but so do Cumming 19 and Hind 31. So will make good amounts of money whilst putting up good scores

Those rookies could all last a week and be dropped, at least I know Hind and Cumming are best 22

And as I touched on, I’m convinced Hind is a premium, be it forward or defender when he gets DPP. Has looked excellent at racking up. Averaging 93, missed a heap of the 3rd quarter on the weekend, think he would have added another 12-15 points there, so would be averaging 97-98, right up there across both positions. 517k feels an excellent buy for a keeper imo

I really want Hind but get the feeling like he'll turn to a spud as soon as I pick him up haha. I keep playing the "1 more week" game with him waiting for a dud score to justify my caution.

I'm no less clear on him this week given he took that knock last week. Heppell back. Versing the Swans at the SCG. Will have a more formal role on Papley.

The thing that puzzles me with Hind is he scores so badly in the first quarter? Seems to average 13-15 in his Q1's then 25-30 in everything else. Not sure what the deal is with that, possible starting from the pine every game?

It also doesn't help that the Dons are first up as well so locks one of my trades straight away.

I’m sold on him

75 in a bit over ahalf v Geelong in pre season

Opened up with 100 in round 1, 83 in a smashing to Port and would have toned up again on the weekend without that time missed. The role won’t change, he’s a distributor for them. They look to him. I think he’s going to average 95 odd imo

Who else has the Witts/Young forced trade combo this week and what are your plans?

Flynn on field, trade Witts to a rook (any position with DPP moves) and then could use the spare cash to go Young to Titch.

Or bring in Hind as a non owner and use the cash next week?

I held a load of cash in the bank last round (I did my second trade Saturday night after Witts got injured, as I knew I would need it!) so this week I'm bringing in two premo DEFs to sort out my backline - Laird and Ridley.

Need Flynn to carry R2 for a few weeks whilst I make upgrades elsewhere. Some very tasty fallen premos coming - Lloyd, Treloar, Neale etc.

I think there are only two viable ruck strategies now - Grundy/Gawn and Flynn, or Grundy & Gawn. Just need Flynn to hold the fort till I can upgrade him to Max.

I have Young as well whom I'm putting as my UTE for this week - will trade him to a rookie next week. I think priority is trading out guys who could lose money, and using the cash to bring in premos where you can.

So of the 6 possible trades so far, how many have been forced for you?

I'm at 4 (Rowell, Caldwell, Young, Cogs) but I'm sure there are people out there who have all 6 when you consider Dangerthug, Witts, Heppell, etc).

And no, Patty Dow doesn't count.

I'm at 5 (Rowell, Dangerfield, Webster, Witts, Young) if you include Webster who I've held onto despite injury. Plus 3 of my bench were dropped for R2.

I was inches away from having Caldwell as well but changed him to Warner at the last minute which has kept me from having forced trade bingo! We must be thankful for small mercies.

I'm telling myself that injury luck balances itself out over the year. It's a good argument for bringing in lower ownership % premos (e.g. Pendlebury) so that if any of the high % ones get injured down the line, you can get a jump on people.

4 also in Danger, Caldwell, Witts and Young.
Didn't start with Rowell so dodged that one.

May be a risky move going with 4 mid rookies but this allows me to solve two problems.

1- get rid of JDG
2- remove my onfield defensive rookies early which are always an issue

can go Dow to Robertson
JDG to Bowes

Leaves me with a solid backline to set and forget

Backline set up looks like mine, nothing wrong with 4 rookie mids since they are the best scoring so far anyways.

Lloyd Laird and Ridley for myself. The defenders are averaging and scoring alot better than Forward keepers atm so may aswell load up. I'm thinking of stacking my mid rookies until i can afford Titch/Oliver/Gaff/Neale instead of filling gaps like a Smith/Brayshaw and i feel you may be in the same boat?

I have both Witts and Young with only 4k in the bank... I'm torn between holding Witts as R3 for a week (Flynn to R2) and then downgrading JDG to a rook to fund Young to Cumming and then next week do Witts to Gawn.

Otherwise it's Witts to Hickey this week, and Young to Cumming.

Kind of surprised Hickey isn't getting a mention in here much as a possible Witts swap? He has a very favourable fixture run - Flynn the only genuine ruck he faces in the next three weeks!

Or if you do that and they get injured *cough, Cogs, cough* you slip down the list.

Agree on Hickey / although his lowest score so far this year was at the SCG

Would Chapman be expected to score at the same output as Young, or better? He'll make more cash than Young even if he does.

I was on your line of thinking but changed my mind yesterday...

Tex is the highest averaging player in the game, negative B/E, plays NM and Freo and is only $550K!
If a rookie was $170k and you brought him in knowing he might take 5 weeks to make $150k, you'd do it!
Tex could make $150k in 2 weeks, all the time giving you 100+ avg!

Assuming no injury....
Worst case is he goes 80 avg for the next 4 weeks, make $150k
Probable case is he goes 100 avg for the next 4 weeks and makes $230K
Best case is he goes 120 avg for the next 4 weeks and makes $300K!!

I'm happy with any of those at his price!
If I grab Tex now, yeah I make some quick cash and get decent scores (hopefully). But, if I do a double downgrade this week, I can bring in two premo keepers next week.

Yeah Tex will make quick cash but I'd rather get the keepers in sooner.

Unless of course Tex (by some miracle) happens to be come a keeper then I'll eat my words.

Though surely this would be a very short term benefit, if Smith is only 3-4 weeks away.
Not if he has to stay in the team as a backup ruck/performs well in the role. He'll end up with one of the rarest DPP's too - RUC/DEF - which is huge when combined with say Briggs - DEF/FWD and Flynn - RUC. I'll be looking at getting Marshall in - RUC/FWD, in a couple of weeks so it completes that quadrangle so to speak

Anyone interested in Fogarty? I recognise this week's score might be a bit of an outlier but he looks set for a 90 avg minimum.
Only scored 37 points in the second half - big difference between the first and second halves. Loves a tackle though, so he's not the worst option - but do realize his scoring will be wildly sporadic, and only decent when Carlton are on top (reminds me a lot of a young Dahlhaus to be honest).
