Sam Edmund reporting that Maynard is staying at Collingwood and will soon sign a new deal.
I'm not super disappointed TBH - really good player but I don't think another small/medium backman should be our priority. We have the best defence in the league thanks to our structures and talent down back, and that's with other options who can't get a game.
Hopefully any $$$s we'd put aside for Maynard can now be used on a speedy outside mid/half-forward goalkicker.

With Hibbos age I think he'd be handy as a lockdown defender. We're a bit lacking for a really reliable mid sized tight defender post-Hibberd. Riv and Salem are ok but can be lax defensively and we want them making plays from HB.
Agreed he would’ve been an upgrade but I think it’s not a huge hole in our list.
Joel Smith could be a permanent mid defender. Hibberd might get one more year. I still have high hopes of Lockhart stepping up, while Hunt is surprisingly solid defensively. Bowey looks like a good piece of the puzzle too. And then there’s the forgotten man in Hore.

Despite not having done much for a season and a half , i thought Weids first half of 2020 was ok . If he goes he goes , i would prefer he stayed . There is no guarantees in football , no insurance against injury or loss of form , and if he seeks newer opportunities so be it . Do we really think we will find a better option as a back up key forward (more the Jackson role but meh ) . Ask your self , why would you leave a club potentially on the verge of a premiership window ?
I wouldn't , I'd have a crack at getting good enough to be in the first team . Call me nuts , i want us to challenge for multiple flags ,not a one off .

Yes, but thats what these cover players are mostly, (emergency full forward backups). He again is a strong overhead mark. Probably better than any we currently have aside from Maxy.
No team is going to give up a genuine 25yr old key marking tall for zilch.
So its pensioners, or the draft are our choices imv.

We only need a powerful mark, as a backup to play a role. We don't want a mark with trampoline hands, that the defenders can play wide of. I'd a prefer a powerful mark, even if older, to attract double teaming defenders to guard him.
Remember, the cover player won't be called on much.
Then we can go to the draft for a kid to develop, at the same time.

Unless he’s willing to come on a contract well below what he wanted at Freo surely the club doesn’t do it, gonna have to pay up to keep a few of the younger lads. And I highly doubt Dogga is keen to go to Freo atm. So we’d struggle to please Freo
Missing out on Maynard isn’t a massive loss, he’d be handy but I still think Hore/Lockhart can provide something. Smith has looked fine aswell

Doubt we land him but it is possible. Everybody is talking about how we don't have the assets, we dont right now but we can craft them. Trade next years 1st into some good picks. I'd expect it would require multiple early picks and a quality player. I'd say along the lines of Harmes or Sparrow/Jordon. Dogga won't go, no way we trade him, won't stop freo asking for him or SGTR. Neither would happen. I'd be hoping for a trade of a 1st, 2nd, Sparrow for Cerra.

Carlton have played him as a small forward despite him clearly being a quality outside mid. His lighting pace and elite skills would be brilliant on a wing or on ball. Good shout

I think it was start of 2019, we played Carlton out at Casey and he was their BOG and shredding us off a wing. Oozed superstar talent.
