The more I think about our list management, the more I'm thinking we will be super quiet this offseason at least - we are going to have to pay Jackson, Kozi, Rivers big contracts in years to come.

Only way I see us making plays for big (ish) names is if we trade some out.

Yeah we could be?

But then I see reports that we actually showed genuine interest in Cerra and now looking at Gunston. I don't think we'll bring in any big names, but could still end up with 1 or 2 solid players that can come in and play solid role.

The Weideman one will be interesting. I think he'll go, but what's he worth?

I reckon Weid is probably worth a mid second rounder at best TBH.

Not a lot going around about Weid. General consensus seems to be the Dees playing the old “he’s a required player” card and interested teams being “not that interested”.

This has the feel of going late in trade week (if at all). Nth will be keen on a swap for 38 and the Dees want 20.

Pies might come late but Dees will want more than 36. Maynard probably fits the bill for both teams given pies still need to offload $1M.

Apparently GC keen on Weid and would give up 19 but doesnt sound like he wants to leave Victoria.

19 for Weideman would be a steal..

Yeah it’s a shame because GC know they have to give overs. GC now at the stage of over paying with trade value but not in salary (as they have to pay their future stars to stay)

Edit: GC will also get in shit with the AFL if they keep these draft picks they were given to trade for this type of scenario.

Jesus Christ no. Might as well get someone off this board who's tall and heavy on the rookie list. Casboult is cooked and if we're relying on him to fill a key spot when contending, so are we.
He's one of the strongest marks in the league.
Based on that alone, he would be worth a rookie spot. If bBrown goes down, we have no full forward; only rucks.

I would be willing to try Petty as a possible hMcKay impersonator.

People replied with disdain to my suggesting we look to recruit 2Meter Peter, or bBrown the other year, ahead of us finally recruiting Brown last year.
And 2Meter is going gangbusters atmo.

People also scoffed at my suggestion of recruiting Luke Jackson months ahead of the draft.

Same again when I suggested we recruit small running players to break the flood and presses, a couple of years before Richmond did it, and they turned the direction of the AFL when they did it, and went on Premiership runs.

Off the list soon. Melksham, mBrown, Jetta, Hibberd, Nate Jones, that's a fair bit of cap space there.

And with possible future trade outs, a lot is possible, [ Hunt, Harmes ]???

We have MBrown as the emergency 5th-in-line KPF. Another year for Majak would do the same job.
Casboult will be 32 at the start of next season and came off a 13 game, 8 goal year (playing half the time as a ruck).
On Wright and BBrown, I don't remember folks saying not to chase Wright given how cheap he was going. The BBrown concern was mostly to do with the picks/salary cost. After the trade most doubters were happy as he came much cheaper than we thought.

I agree we should look for some depth talls, but a 23-25 y.o. state leaguer, who at least has some scope to improve, would be a much better option than Casboult imo.

Given the response we received when we initially enquired into Cerra, I’d be stunned.

We won’t go out of our way to deal with Freo again. Jackson (or any player wanting to get to Freo) would have to nominate them before we did any deals.

For those wondering, we were told by Freo that we didn’t have currency for Cerra. Guess they didn’t think about young players (not that we’d trade them).
Hello Boris, I love your work in here mate, you get some good stuff but why would you lot have any issues with us, you’ve done nothing but beat us silly at the trade table for years.

Doesn’t seem unreasonable for us to tell you you don’t have the trade cap because you don’t unless you are trading Jackson (he is worth more than Cerra).

Good luck for finals, whenever I read this board I have genuine laugh out loud moments because you lot are ****ing funny

What about Esava Ratugolea as a left field KPF backup option? Good age profile, likes to crash a pack. Could be a good moneyball option.

He isn’t getting getting a game now but reckon Geelong would like to keep him. He probably wouldn’t chose us as he’d struggle to get a game. But he’s be a good pickup for us.

Mitch Brown isn't a high marking deep forward. He's a high half-forward like TMc or Weide.
It's marking the ball deep, that we need cover for. We have high half-forwards bleeding out of our ears atmo.

We won't get any half-decent high marking tall forward around 25yrs age. Remember its cover we want, and cheap.

How do we get him and afford him whilst bolstering other spots. Again, not a full-forward type, but more high half-foward or forward/ruck.
# If we traded TMc out to GCS, Esava might be handy.

Majak isn't tall enough nor plays tall enough, for deep-forward, on his own.

I think I was posting about them on another site. Neither were valued as options there. But now people will be having other thoughts.

To be honest there was never really any hope for a deal for either two.

When MFC asked about Cerra a few months back, they were told that Freo weren’t interested in trading with Melbourne for Cerra as MFC didn’t hold enough trade value for him as they wanted top picks.
A few big weeks later by Jackson, Cerra requests his move and Carlton start the hardball and the next time talks were held Freo raised Jackson and it didn’t go any further.
