Surely NOW IS THE TIME to sign up Jackson? Why wait until next year when we lose bargaining power as he would be out of contract at the end of the year?

Get him in now whilst we're bathing in premiership glory. Minimum 3 year extension. maximum 12 years :)

Why do you think the club wouldn’t be talking to his management already?

Oh only because he isn't already signed up. lol. Losing Jackson would be 10 times worse than losing Scott Thompson to Adelaide. 3 first rounders for Jackson wouldn't be suffice.

It is naive to think clubs and player management aren't in dialogue throughout the year. Jackson could push his value even higher next year if he keeps improving, I wouldn't blame him if he holds off signing with us.

I think he's maxed out now. He's a million a year guy. And we've got Oliver that demands the same. How do we fit in 3 million dollar players? There's only so much you can front and back end.

I wonder if some player's minds turn towards thinking about getting a big payday and setting themselves up for life after football, once they have won a flag.
Once you have ticked a premiership or two off, the lure of a huge contract somewhere else could be very attractive for some.

Peak Grundy signed for 1M, it would be flat out negligent to sign Jackson for that much. 700K max for 2-3 years then he can command 1M with more runs in the board.

I'm telling you, that's what he'll be offered. You use Grundy as an example, I'll use Tom Scully as an example. He was offered a million a year at 20. The same for Tom Boyd. This is what it takes to prize them out of their club.

Jared polec was given a 750k contract over 5 years to get to North. So Jackson is definitely going to be more than that.

And both were epic fails, you can argue that Toms GF was worth the money but at the end of the day clubs wont continue to offer kids 1m contracts because it has the ability to seriously set a club back.

These blokes are going to.want to stay together. Tight group. Reminds me a lot of the Geelong dynasty. Their stars took unders to keep the list. I can see that happening with this group tbh. Trac could've gotten more. Culture has changed. Now they've tasted success they'll want it again.

Not guaranteed that we'll attract a heap of talent. Cerra is an interesting one. I have no doubt he wants us over Carlton, and the reason why he hasn't nominated yet is because we have been trying to find a way to get it done. At least we won't pay overs like Carlton inevitably will. I honestly think he's just an average player. To give us pick 6 and more on 750k potentially is absurd..

The age profile of the list is in good shape. I'd make re-signing key players a priority as I feel a cap squeeze coming soon.

We have 3x million dollar players between Clarry, Trac and Jackson. Sparrow, Bowey, SGTR and Pickett deserve more than what we are paying them now too.
I love Jackson but **** me he would want to improve a lot more next year to get a million a year

He's a 19 year old ruckman, playing well in grand finals. He's probably $1.05 to be the best ruckman of the next decade. All I'm saying is that Freo and WCE will offer him that much. He may take a payout to stay with us. maybe 900k. But youth is the key to having a big contract. Jackson is probably the biggest commodity in the game outside of arguably Sam Walsh. As they are both young and that's what adds currency.

They'd be stupid if they did not think like that. For the majority of them this is the pinnacle of their earning capacity. Most footy players are out of the system within a few a years. Make hay while the sun is shining.

Salary cap/total player payments has changed since the Geelong dynasty i.e. no "veterans list" sitting outside the cap.

I would spew if MFC met Cerra's asking price. Not trying to put him down as a player, but I would rather take care of our own players before bringing in a top priced recruit.

Do you guys think we will pick up Mac Andrew?
Won’t get to us. If he’s picked before 20 we can’t match it.

If he gets to 20 I reckon we absolutely will.

I agree with most of the sentiments here but we've just won a flag so I'd find it hard to believe if he just went to the draft with pick 33 and 42 etc without improving our list for next season. This is a big chance to double down with a good player or 2. Whether it's a free agent or something. Now is our time to double down.
