List Mgmt. 2021 Trade Targets

Is that a direct quote, or paraphrasing what Rendell said and getting it wrong by that Neville??

This was Rendell's take on Port's list yesterday and his theme was - Too much of a good thing. From about 1.20.

"They gotta a great list. They had a great season. But they had a disaster in the last game, and this has been a bit of an issue for me all year. They're one midfielder short and we're hearing O'Meara might be in play here, to try and fix that little hole.

The other thing that worries me is that they've got a lot of players in their best 22 who are supremely talented, skillful running players, make great decisions with the ball in hand, but they don't provide enough physicality or pressure on the opposition and this is their biggest worry.

I'm gonna name the 10 of them, Burton, Bonner, Motlop, Rozee, Marshall, Houston, Amon, Fantasia, Ladhams, Georgiades. Georgiades is the kid in that mob, I'm cutting him some slack. But they would have luckied to have laid 5 tackles in that final against the Bulldogs. They were down 23 at quarter time, in contested ball.

Every time they win contested ball, they win the game. Now they are 30 out of 31. [winning contest possessions over last 2 seasons]. Destroyed by 30 in this game and down 23 at quarter time. They've got too much of a good thing here with these particular players. There's 10 of them who do not put enough pressure. Bonner had a really good game, mind you, in this game. They do not put on enough physicality or pressure, or tackling, chasing on the opposition and they need to get a better balance in that respect,

Too much too do for - Gray, Wines, Boak, Drew, Duursma and Butters. Now Duursma and Butters weren't at their peak. I don't think they ever got back to their best footy after the injuries they had early in the year, bar for a game or two, so I'm cutting them some slack, because they normally play for keeps. The other blokes gotta lift."

So I don't see where Rendell said Georgi didn't make any tackles in the PF. He was mixing who he had in the best 22, with the poor PF effort and said who in Port's best 22 are basically the flakey flanker types I bang on about.

And he's right, we have too many who don't put on enough pressure when the going gets tough.

Look at the premiership side of 2004 and you would only put 5 or 6 into the category of not being hard enough with tackling and physical pressure. We had to keep adding to them over 3 or 4 years to get there as well as develop a few to be those type of players. Of the 10 he mentioned above I can only see 2 or 3 are going to maybe change to be a lot harder at it.

Was this from the Simpson episode about Jimmy Hoffa? Legend says that he was buried in a football stadium after his disappearance.

I’d think we are waiting for the Dawson deal.
How does it work from a salary cap perspective?

If Sydney are tight and have everyone signed up from next year do they have to move on Dawson before trading in Ladhams so that they can prove they can for him under the cap?

It has nothing to do with it.

So if last year Sydney were interested in Ladhams as part of Aliir trade and we said no, but Ladhams ends up being traded this year for 31, then over 2 years its;

Port In Aliir +31 Out Ladhams
Syd In Ladhams + 35 Out Aliir

Given our 2022 rd 2 pick ie 35 was on traded to WCE for Hickey last year, the 2 year result would be;

Port In Aliir + 31 (a kid) Out Ladhams
Syd In Ladhams + Hickey Out Aliir

Pick swapping lol, yeah coz an 18 year old is gunna help us win the premiership next year… if swapping picks is what your holding your hopes on boy oh boy we are in trouble.

so now we make excuses for bad recruiting do we? “It’s too hard” no. They get paid to attract players to this club and help us fill in gaps in our list. And unless we pull a rabbit out of the hat and some big trades comes out of absolutely no where, we have failed.

again looking like the worst off-season since 2010
The above comment just typical the pants-wetting brigade that have pontificated their myopic views every trade & draft period the last 4 years .. and everytime we have nailed it! Its Ken and Co who have let us down consistently. Just wait until its over mate!

Until then, maybe get some of these in the meantime!

I'm not going to go as far as saying this trading period will be a success for us, but so far most sides have done SFA during this trade period. Who knows whether that's due to COVID, deals being held up, or under the table payment conspiracies where list managers get free Continental Tyres if they hold off deals till the last day

Covid means
1) The TPP / CBA hasn't been approved and clubs and player managers are flying blind and
2) with premiers saying they wont necessarily not lockdown and close borders why move unless you really have to get out of your current club?

The league continues to negotiate with the AFLPA on a new collective bargaining agreement after cutting player salaries for 2021 by 9 per cent. That entire deal is likely six to eight months from completion given the complexities of negotiating a collective bargaining agreement. When the league cut player pay by 9 per cent last year under a heads of agreement it committed to a new CBA from 2022-24.

If that deal cannot be stuck, the league will revert to the current CBA deal for 2022. The improved financial position will at worst mean players will not have to take another pay cut for 2022. Under the unlikely scenario the AFL forced another pay cut on players, it would have to be a mandatory figure across the board for every single player after the league made clubs enforce the pay cuts of players last year.

Player payments for 2022 are set at $14,769,322 if there are no further cuts, but list managers are still awaiting certainty on the 2022 TPP.
