Our first round pick will be enough. As always, everyone underrates the value of picks. Suggestions of first round AND Marshall or Ladhams are just ridiculous. That won't happen.

Funnily enough I tend to swing the other way and say people overrate the value of picks :p

Our side had this debate when it was get Daniher or keep pick 5. In the end Daniher probably wasnt worth pick 5 but we also wasted pick 5. I was all in on trading it because the U18 prospect is always riskier imo.

I know who Marshall is, we have seen him play close to 50 games, you can tell where his strengths are and his areas of improvement are. You dont have those data points anywhere near as clear with a fresh draftee who could thrive at AFL or shrivel completely. Or their above average attributes get exposed as average or worse at the highest level for example.

Not to mention you may not even be able to pick the player you wanted in the draft by the time your pick comes.

Jack Billings has signed a 4 year contract extension with the Saints

If we lose Clurey, I wonder if we'd have a look at Lewis Young? SA boy, only 22, natural intercepting KPD but being played out of position due to his current club's need. Sort of a poor man's version of the Aliir trade.
As a dogs fan snooping, all ill say about lewis is that we are so slim on key backs as it is and yet he still cant hold down the spot for longer than 2 weeks at a time. has the athletic attributes but is soft as butter. He is being played out of position but its because he isnt trusted to play down back in his natural place

We aren’t going to get an elite midfielder in this trade period so may need some backup in case of injuries. We’ve probably screwed ourselves over a bit by not playing untried players. Yeah we may lose an extra game or 2 but would see what a lot more of our list can do. If we are good enough we’d still win these games when trying others. A lot of other clubs do this well. Some players play better in the AFL then sanfl coz they have better players around them.
who knows a mead or woodcock could come in and be a good midfielder. Pasini could be a great defender or lord could thrive with decent delivery into the 50 and not being opposed to a teams strongest defender

I have never been that sure about Hewitt, but wow we could have used him on Saturday night.
Just that experienced Midfielder that could lock someone down for 10 minutes.

What’s the go with Rhylee West from the dogs?

Can’t break into the side as a midfielder with the competition he’s coming up against and when he does play he seems to usually be shafted forward like Dunkley was a few years ago before cementing his position.

Looking at his VFL stats for this year, 6/7 games he had 20+ disposals and 3 games 25+. Also seems to pull decent tackle numbers too.

21 years of age and would be wanting more senior opportunities soon rather than being 10th in line at the dogs. Who knows if he would consider leaving the club given the FS connection but some of the types could be who we need to look at to add some young mids into the mix.

Sam Mayes has better midfield numbers than most state league players, but never gets a chance there in the AFL side.

Tim O’Brien is still without a contract as a free agent. I wonder if we will bring him in to replace Clurey?

It’s not really an upgrade but we’d gain some draft picks and reduce salary cap spend.

If we go down that path of trying to poach young midfielders that aren’t getting opportunities. Riley Collier Dawkins 20yo might be worth a look 190cm speedy midfielder. Played 9 games for Tigers this year & 6 in the VFL where he was in the best all 6 times.

He was certainly another one I was thinking about in the same boat as West. Love that he’s got that bit of extra height which our midfielders lack.

Mitchell's spike in form coincided with the return to supermarket shelves of these...

You won't get him for a bag of chips but you might get him for a bag of Chicken-in-a-biskit.
Does a drumstick taste different to a chicken?

After Saturday, he’d fit right in!

Yuck

no way do I want to go chasing a end of career ball accumulator as if it’s the miracle cure in the hope of winning boak and gray a cup at the expense of drafting and developing the team that our next coach will inherit.
We need someone that bursts from stoppage, the blokes in the phonebox shoveling it probably isn't our issue although they can go to sleep ala the prelim.

Gotta love hypothetical trade time at this point of the year.

Saw this pop up on facebook from bombers fans (no idea why I get them) and seems they have spent too much time tracking Dodo.

Essendon trade pick 11 and a future 2nd rounder, for Marshall, pick 16 and a future third rounder.

Can only laugh at the bombers at times

Chuck in Hinkley and you’ve got a deal.

Nope nope nope. Seen him a few times at the VFL and its a big NO. Better to keep Woodcock and try and develop him as a midfielder than chase West.
