Sunday night. We might know how awkward or not it is by club champion dinner night in regard to Neale informing us or not.
Monday it is then.Sunday night.
Would Collingwood still be paying a substantial portion of his contract?Rumour and not confirmed:
Treloar wants to move to QLD to be with his wife & newborn. She plays for the Firebirds.
Not sure of his trade value or IF it’s true but I imagine a first round pick would be involved.
Why didnt he play against us?Would Collingwood still be paying a substantial portion of his contract?
I enjoy the off-season as I look at it as a way to improve our list but frankly I don't get any enjoyment out of this current situation with Neale. At the end of the day one can look at it as a way to hit the 'draft' but as an avid draft follower this group would have to be one of the most compromised ever. A large majority of the players drafted come from Victoria and they have had 2 seasons destroyed by Covid. We moan about the lack of opportunity for development for our players on our list therefore how is one able to truly be able to say whether a player has developed over the last 2 years in their draft year? We already have an opportunity, albeit late first rounders, to bring in talent to add to our list. I suppose the disappoint of the current situation is quite roar at the moment for myself so the notion of any enjoyment is quite far fetched.Fantastic - for those of us that love the off season, the trade and draft periods, the myriad of strategies and scenarios this one was looking a little quiet for Brisbane - NOT NOW. Even if the Neale trade is killed later this week it wont go away this year or next and will have a dramatic effect on our moves now as evidenced by the threads on here exploding with Neale, Neale, Neale and some Parker, Parker. One thing under Fagen/Nobel is that they take a 2 and 3 year view of building and that is still the case at the Lions. The whole delay now will be about both parties doing due diligence and you can bet the phones are running hot at the Lions looking at the scenarios of when is the best time to let Neale go and who will be available. I'd hate to see the phone bill from yesterday and today, I'll be every manager in the country is ringing with a strategy and/or we are ringing them.
Bring it on, this year and next just got fun. Kenny Rodgers you legend, "got to know when to hold and when to throw them".
The excuse about where to raise the child is flimsy, because the child would still be less than 2 years old when his Lions contract expires, so it is not like the child has established friends in pre-school or primary school or the parents have met new friendship groups making it a little harder to leave. With COVID vaccines, it would appear that the borders should be open before Easter next year, therefore allowing travel to and from Perth. Yes, it is not ideal not to have mum around just after the birth of the child or the family apart for the first Christmas...but geez compared to the plight of innocent civilians in Afghanistan, it seems a bit of a trivial excuse. We might need another thread …
Breaking.
Lachie Neale is weighing up his playing future - and looks set to request a trade from the brisbanelions back to the freodockers.
It’s understood Neale and wife Jules are keen to raise their family in WA.

My two cents worth - Parker will probably get 3 x $600k from the Swans by the time the haggling is over. Especially once we make known our interest, if indeed we have interest. They can't really afford to lose him. Very unlikely we will be delisting Fullarton. Fages loves him. Ballenden possibly delisted; Brock Smith and Ely almost certainly. I would add Tom Joyce to the possible departures. We don't need fringe types like Weideman and I doubt we would want to give a spot to Lynch who is still very raw given we have Fullarton and two developing rucks in Henry Smith and Lane. I'm assuming Archie will be gone. For me, we should be getting a minimum of 2 first round picks for Neale. 1 of those must be their pick 8 or pick 6 they get for cerra from Carlton.
We have now 4 first round picks
Pick up Luke Parker as free agent, 3yrs @ $600.
I'm delisting Fullerton and Ballenden.
Chasing Max Lynch from Collingwood and Wiederman from Melbourne. Wiederman maybe costs us 1 first round pick or 1 pick split to trade.
With 3 first round draft picks we get 3 really good kids, or use 2 and trade a pick fwd to make sure of getting Ashcroft the next year. Either way it locks in a good future.
Summary.
Out-- Neale, Ballenden, Fullerton
In--- Parker, Wiederman, Lynch
It fills the Neal hole, it fills the Hippy hole (I've got Hippy on the Long term injury list all season next yr), upgrades ruck/fwd depth.
I'm trading/delisting Ely Smith
Delisting Brock Smith and hoping Birchall retires to make way for 2 or 3 top draft picks.
How far off are Smith and Lane? If one of them can give big Oscar a chop out he might not be as fatigued and can hold onto some of those big overhead marks that he’s been threatening. My two cents worth - Parker will probably get 3 x $600k from the Swans by the time the haggling is over. Would Brooksby, delisted by the Hawks, be a short term ruck back-up option? How far off are Smith and Lane? If one of them can give big Oscar a chop out he might not be as fatigued and can hold onto some of those big overhead marks that he’s been threatening.

I’m all aboard the Tom Mitchell trade. What ever we get for Neale can go straight to Hawthorn.
Mitchell is younger as well.
Win win all round.

I have a gut feeling it could be true, apparently he's looking for 4 year 700k which doesn't seem unreasonable and for Sydney to not have accepted it then they must be in some serious trouble with their cap. I think it's a near certainty that one of Parker or Dawson is not there next season and in their position with young mids coming through they may well prefer Dawson. For a one club player and someone that from the outside seems a great clubman I doubt the difference in contract is only 50k so I'd imagine they're a fair way apart. Disclaimer, this is just me thinking out loud and I could be way off.Take it with a grain of salt but there's an in depth post on the Swans board regarding exit interviews and their post season moves that suggests that if Neale leaves Parker would be open to coming to us and has no interest in Suns, Bombers or Blues.
Bear in mind the poster has only ever made the one post and they haven't replied to anyone asking about sources so it could just be an elaborate larp.

FWIW I'd take Dawson over Parker if given a choice, fantastic kick of the footy and can play the distributing role out of the back or on the wing, also 4 years younger than Parker, would be extremely happy with Parker though.I have a gut feeling it could be true, apparently he's looking for 4 year 700k which doesn't seem unreasonable and for Sydney to not have accepted it then they must be in some serious trouble with their cap.
